A tourist getting mugged isn't news in the UK, US or here. A tourist getting raped or killed is and should be cause for alarm. I must disagree with you there mate. Been to Australia, US and Europe on business and pleasure a few times and never been mugged or ever felt at risk.

I've been involved in 2 attempted muggings in Jozi. (lucky for me I had my gun - thus "attempted").

Now I'm not saying that my experience is the same as everyones... I just think tourists "feel" less safe in SA. I know I do and I live here.

That's why I made the reference to anecdotal evidence. I'm sure some people do get mugged in Aus, UK, US etc. That doesnt' mean everybody does in the same way that the fact that you've been mugged twice doesn't mean every South African has been.

In a group of about 10 people (all white, just in case it matters) that I once knew, 9 had never been mugged and 1 guy had been mugged 4 times in 2 different cities in SA. Some people are just more likely to be mugged than others.

Edit: I don't think tourists feel particularly unsafe in SA (although I think they should). It depends where they come from. When I lived in France, I felt VERY unsafe for the first week or so because I expected to be attacked when walking alone at night or through open fields. That doesn't mean that France is unsafe.

Yes, you're alot less likely to be a victim of crime in Canada than SA. Get there before all the other South Africans read those pages so you're not stuck at square one again.

I qualify easily, to enter Canada. I'm deciding between Canada, Britain and New Zealand. Those countries value me more than this government. :)

Basically there is 1 blackout per day in EastRand...

If Eishkom cant even supply us locals with energy wtf are they going to do when we have bigger infrastructure to support, ie like the WC.

This and the public transport (coffins) are all signs that we will loose or shame ourselves on 2010...

Please more news like this, to indicate to our gavamant they are f$king incompetent.

But guess what, they will blame their f#kcups on guess who... yes racist white ppl
