Mods can we make this a poll? Would like to see how many here are still not convinced .. then it must be purely based on other things than just the organizing team, bafana-bafana and supportes/fans ... comeon, bring it on my country of pride :)

Once we ban the Vuvuzelas, yes.

Let's ban vuvuzelas, because after 10 years somebody has decided to tune in to a soccer match being played in South Africa. Oh the horror! - I took this from capetownguys sig, illustrates a good point

back to the OP, we are more than ready and its going to be EPIC!!

SA will host a decent 2010 tournament. I still maintain that all the new stadia were overkill.

Dont think your wish will come true.

"However, Fifa president Joseph Blatter said the vuvuzelas were part and parcel of football in South Africa.

"That is what African and South Africa football is all about - noise, excitement, dancing, shouting and enjoyment. This is a celebration," he said."

I have read alot about this in german forums, I don't think they will disallow the Vuvuzelas.

Sorry for ot.

Edit. We should all get one, as it distracts the other players/teams. Good for us :D But I havr to agree, they are noisy, if you are not used to it.

Not at all, with all the new Stadiums we can host many more comps

I do not think anyone can say we do not have the ability too host the world cup.

We hosted the IPL with 3 weeks notice and it was an amazing well organized tournament, we then hosted the confed and apart from the poor state of the ellis park pitch is was a huge success.

I see no reason why the world cup would be a problem.

We aren't ready! Why the obsession with being ready? Ready June 2010, not June 2009.
Yes, we have the experience of a test run but we are far from ready.

Correct But this is more of an operational issue. IMO it has to do with planning and service, something host cities have been doing for a while now and need to implement with German precision. The legacy needs to be the continued use of the system or plans post 2010 and the use of decent and new buses as a means of public transport.

Another major problem would be communication. I really hope cities print out pamphlets etc. detailing the park and ride sites and provide decent signage/signs to guide those using these services at stations and shopping centres etc.

The stadiums might be ready - or nearly ready - but there is still plenty of other infrastructure still needs sorting out. I'm confident they'll pull it off as long as they dont get too complacent after the success of the ConCup.

I still look at the PE stadium and wonder what the heck they're going to do about parking, public transportation is far from ready and the taxi associations arent helping matters.

5 new 5 existing.

5 new venues cost < cost of Wembley Stadium.

The venues in Mbombela and Polokwane and PE are absolute bargains.
There is simply no place in the world where you can build a FIFA compliant venue for R1-2 billion.

Boet Erasmus is falling apart so PE deserves a modern venue. Newlands' days are numbered and the same applies to any other residential based venue with houses adjacent to it...uh Loftus.

No comment re Durbans new stadium

Park and ride sites. Nobody will be parking anywhere near any 2010 venue.

I prefer to park near to the venue and walk, thank you very much.

Centurion / Super Sport park is very good in this regard. Why can't all stadiums just have lots of parking around them?

I still recall the proposed parking facilities for busses/coaches document you provided for me and that plan was/is ill conceived.

Not for a FIFA World Cup. Parking around the venue is reserved for commercial sponsors, media centre etc with other space for coaches, vip parking.

Parking reasonably close is great but not within the secure perimeter.
In Cape Town park and ride sites will be at various locations but the closest will be just outside the CBD. Spectators will use the IRT system to the stadium/waterfront and surrounds with additional coaches for the demand on match days.

Wait... what? So you have to park in the CBD and then take a buss all the way to Greenpoint? Isn't that a bit of an overkill?

All the way? As in 2.5km. The fan mile from the Parade is another option depending on the weather. No ways anybody will be parking near the stadium.

This is not new e.g. Adderley Street Night Markets or Minstrels or Switching on of festive lights. Only difference is that there will be a public transport system in place.

Another option would be to use a train to Cape Town Station.
