quick question, and slightly off topic here - but here goes.

lately telkom have been airing adverts claiming they are exceeding expectations of the FIFA Federation or whatever.... this means, they are OK to broadcast the Soccer games, ready for action and whatnot....

now, didn't we have this technology in 1995, at the RWC? what am I missing here?

Reported in the Cape Argus today....uh what a weird coincidence.

Park-and-ride sites earmarked for 2010

Two city sites have been identified as possible park-and-ride facilities for next year’s soccer World Cup. The Cape Argus reports that the facilities, where fans can safely park their cars and be ferried to the stadium and fan parks, will be in the CBD under the Foreshore freeways and in the District Six area, according to the city’s media manager, Kylie Hatton. Hatton said planning was at an advanced stage, and the number of parking sites could grow to three, depending on demand. ’Spectators will be dropped off at the CBD’s main transport hub in Hertzog Boulevard where they can either walk along the Fan Walk, or catch the match-day shuttles,’ said Hatton.

Well, in CPT what matches would be playing? If only quarter/semi-finals i suspect that visitors will be dominating the crowd/fans meaning they won't be driving their won cars. So, parking for buses from hotels won't be as bad as people (locals) flocking in with their own small cars in numbers...

Car parking near big city stadia is not logistically good and not the best way to empty a stadium either.

The public transport should be made capable of handling the loads.
