Hi,

My fiance and I both have vista laptops and we share a E220 modem. I'm running vmclite ver 3.1.bla bla. And both laptops download and install windows updates.

All of a sudden, both laptops are not running the program when I plug the modem in. I called 082 155 and he suggested i restore back to before the latest updates. I did so and it worked. But what now!!!!! I like to have my laptop up to date with all updates, but if I do that i'm throwing R249 down the toilet each month until another update comes out.

Hardly seems right.

Have you checked that the modem is on the latest firmware and you are running the latest version of VMCLite?

Maybe use the full VMC dash or use ginggs 'dashboard' called MDMA (ginggs is not so hot on TLA's ;)) You can find it as one of the top threads in the MTN forum.

I have the 3.2.1.156 vmclite dashboard installed on the device. I'm not sure what firmware it is. Last time I tried to update firmware, I ended up having to swap out the modem.

Sorry, but what is TLA's

Maybe use the full VMC dash
is that the v9.3.0.9237 on the vodacom site?

Just a random question, are you and your wife by any chance using webcams?

Firmware is the 'program' that runs on the modem and controls the modem hardware. Compare with the 'program' that runs on the PC and allows you to setup and use the device. This is typically called the 'software', for example VMC or VMC-lite.

On the E220 (abd E272), you can upgrade both the firware and software.

A Three Letter Acronym. In IT, it is deemed uncool to not use a 3-letter abbreviation that can be pronounced as a new word. Like 'LAN' for example.

Ginggs' (very cool) application is called MDMA which is neither 3 letters nor an acronym. Rather it should be called something like 'GAT' (Ginggs' Amazing Tool), but that will probably get the girls all perturbed. ;)

Sometimes 4 letters are acceptable if they form an easily remembered word, in this case DAMM (Data Application for Mobile Monitoring) would be an acronym, rather than MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application).

Companies, such as IBM like complex acronyms, for example they would call the tool DAMMIT (Data Application for Mobile Monitoring on IT systems)

Yup

Ok, when this first started happening (about 3 days ago) i decided to uninstall vmclite ans re-install. The problem now, is because it wont run the program from the modem's drive, I cant get vmclite re-installed, and thus no modem is being recognised when I execute the firmware upgrade.

Does ginggs tool get loaded onto the modems memory like the dashboard software?

No, Gingg's tool runs only on the pc. It does not install to the modem's memory.

Hey Gingg... maybe that could be your new project?

Been there, done that. ;)
MDMA doesn't take up much space so you have >31MB to put your own tools in the image (>63MB if you have a E17x or E27x).

Is there any way to edit the autorun file on the E220 so when I plug it in it will run a program on the pc like ginggs tool, or the likes of VMC 9??
