The most active programmers on GitHub by public code commits in South Africa have thousands of contributions between them according to a ranking generated by Gayan Kuruppu, a PhD PGR in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Derby in the UK.

Kuruppu's project, "Top GitHub users by country", contains users from 138 countries and 674 cities, with 971 developers in South Africa.
