Most loyal smartphone users

Interesting article, I'm always of the opinion that people tend to stick with what they know, irregardless if it's not the best out there for pretty much the same price.

If some random cellular provider would send me a different smartphone to try for free on a monthly basis, I would in all likelihood change my "brand"

I think Apple wins because once you are tied into Apple you are stuck with Apple. The others are OEMS using the same OS so you can get a Samsung, switch over to Motorola, then to HTC and then to Sony anytime you want and you are pretty much still getting a pretty similar experience as any of those.

But is the iPhone really that good though? Never used it. I've always seen it as just an overpriced "fashion statement" or something people bought to look cool. Whereas Android feels more practical. I can never imagine buying an iPhone 5s over a HTC One M8. Maybe if I spent a considerable amount of time with it I'd see why there's so many iSheep?

Apple have successfully substituted hardware performance & flexibility with brand snob value. Its a lucrative business model.

I think it is

I have an iphone 5s, iphone 4s, a HTC One S and a Galaxy S

I use them for development work. The 5s is by far the best in my opinion. However, they all do the job. I don't see the iphone's as a "fashion statement". They all look the same now anyway. You say the Android feels more practical and you also admit that you have never used an iphone. So how would you know ? Truth is, they are all practical. And in fact, its not the "Android" part of the Android phones which are the problem. Its the hardware. Most of the of the Android phones don't have the same responsiveness in the touch screen and they aren't as well made. The Android operating system itself is actually damn good and would rate it as good as Apple's iOS. There isn't really much between them.

Its at the hardware level where the iphone trumps the competition. But at a price.

Well done on not reading the article.
Yes Apple users are most likely to continue buying Apple phones. But, also in the article, Apple users have the highest satisfaction with their phone. If they were "stuck" with Apple, they wouldn't have the highest customer satisfaction

Do tell me more about how iPhones are being outperformed in hardware by other manufacturers?

Also it isn't that difficult to transfer your data between phones these days. Most of the important data you have can be synced via the cloud to a new device and apps can simply be re downloaded, it isn't a massive hurdle.

A massive part of it is that iOS is much simpler than Android for most of the population to use, and Apple phones are much more reliable (imo) than other brands. The software doesn't crash as often, the hardware is top quality this and because it is easy to use means if you aren't overly fussed about tech then there wouldn't be much reason to change.

Just wait till Apple users try out Android, they will trash that iJunk so fast.

I'm an Android fan, but imho, if you're a non-technical user I'm thinking iOS would be better for you.

I say this because Android isn't the easiest thing to use. Theres a lot of nitty gritty settings and stuff. Theres so much that can be done *if* you know what you're doing.

And looking at my parents (+-50 years old) who tried to and CAN'T use Android, giving them an iPhone would be a bit... simpler.
