Hello everyone,
Till now I had uncapped 2Mb for Telkom but , how do I say it? , was horrible.
Now that we moved to a new house I have the chance to improve my life. I need your help with choosing the most solid ISP for gaming. (No youtube long buffs will be much appriciated).
By solid I mean , constant latency of <80 to any server around south africa , with no spikes , random crashes at all.
I am looking for a 1Mb uncapped package.
Looked at Mweb and was impressed , but some may say they are sh*t.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Webafrica, Plugg, Afrihost Most of these you should be able to get decent gaming experience for <80 ping. I have been on all three and they were fine for gaming. What game are you playing?

Looking for something in the range of about R400 without the line. Less than that would be nice :D

I am playing Team Fortress 2 , nearly unplayable with latency.
If they all the same in the gaming part , which had the best youtube experience?

I've run a couple of trace routes with my TI account to IS and MWEB servers. I could not find SAIX server address and my figures seem fine? I'm in Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape and probably a fair distance from those servers.

Assuming I have the correct server address, I'm way below your 80ms mark. Maybe there was another problem?

Hi Turcruo,

There is no catch to it. That will be your fixed price when the special is over.
I'm on the same package when it was on special last time which was in January 2013 if not mistaken.

Well 2Mb easter crap seems ok :P

Is the special forever or there is a catch? To be honest R299 is an insane price for 2Mb uncapped.

Amazing.
Guess I'm gonna order it soon.

Without any connection to the special , is this ISP good in regards to normal package? (value for money etc.)

I play TF2 as well.

I use plugg and my ping is <15 on the Jhb IS servers and <40 on Mweb Cape town server (I generally play on IS servers though)

Openweb has been getting excellent reviews lately for their accounts and if I am not mistaken they also use the Internet Solutions backbone (same as plugg and now Web Africa)

Hi Turcruo,

I'm a heavy downloader and play dota and BF3 with out no issue on the 2MB package. Personally i believe you get value for money, they are extremely good.

Amazing.
Guess I'm gonna order it soon.

GOLD is the best consumer targeted uncapped package out there. It's why we all love it.

Hello everyone,
Till now I had uncapped 2Mb for Telkom but , how do I say it? , was horrible.

Can you provide some detail? Where are you located? What game servers were you using?

Can you post a traceroute to the server?

At the end of March, a user reported that traffic from Cape Town to MWEB Cape Town was going via Rosebank, that was fixed on 3 April, dropping latency from 50ms to ~12ms.

If there are similar problems, send the detail (including traceroute) to [email protected], PM me the ticket number you receive back/.

Unfortunately, users in KZN will have the worst latency to Cape Town, at present their traffic is routed through Gauteng, and there is nothing we can do about it in the short term. However, latency to SAIX game servers shouldn't be too bad.

I am located in Port Elizabeth.
For about 2 weeks (1-2 months ago) latency was bad (120ms+- to CP servers) , browser pages were slow and youtube disagreed to work.
My point is , for and insane amount of almost R700 , I expect to get what I deserve.

+1 on Webafrica local pings have improved greatly since the switch to the IS network.

On Battlefield 3 I either get a ping of 22ms or 44ms depending on what network the server is hosted on.

I've got the 1Mbps Home Uncapped account from Webafrica. It costs R329 a month including ADSL line rental, if you get the line from them, but who wouldn't since they are one of the cheapest when it comes to ADSL line rental.

Good Evening turcruo, if you'd like to test the MWEB network with a FREE 7 day trial. Let me know and I will arrange it for you ;)

dude, mwebguy... organise one for me too please... i've now reached the point of giving up online gaming as my latency is >250ms.

We had some teething problems in February with the Cape Town site. We completed some upgrades in the site towards the end of Feb, so things should be better. When I was on leave, I used a 1Mbps ADSL line in the Western Cape (300+km from Cape Town, and youtube etc. were fine, traceroutes looked ok.

Without any detail (e.g. to a support channel such as [email protected]) it is difficult to look at user-specific problems. If your account is still active, and you are willing to test once more, I will commit to investigating until we find a root cause. If not, I may be able to arrange a test account next week (we have some work outstanding to formalise the process for test accounts). Users who have reported their issues have had them resolved ...

You are the best support I ever got from telkom but sadly , I decided to try other ISP's. Anyways thanks a lot.
