You should also phone Telkom and ask them to do a port reset.
Better still, while you are in ZA, I would sign your parents up with a 1mbps Afrihost uncapped bundle (line + data) at R297pm all inclusive. This will mean you need to migrate your line over to Afrihost, but it will allow to support your parents' line from overseas (wherever you are) through the online control panel, and via email. The control panel also allows you to do the port resets yourself.
You should also setup a DynDNS account, so that you can access the router config easily remotely (not completely necessary, as you can log in via the IP address, which you can get from the Control Panel, or even the Afrihost smartphone app.
