Cape Town - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe had to pick his words carefully on Wednesday when he deviated from a prepared speech in the National Assembly to explain the operation of a circumcision device to MPs.

Speaking during debate on the presidency's budget vote, he referred to an HIV/Aids campaign in KwaZulu-Natal involving the roll-out of "the biggest medical male circumcision project" in South Africa's history.

"Honourable Members, just to share with you that this campaign utilises a device, a plastic device, which simplifies the procedure."

Gesturing with his hands, amid loud laughter from MPs, Motlanthe then attempted to explain how the device worked.

"Er, it... you fit... it's a simple procedure... you fit this into the plastic gadget... and two clicking sounds happen. And this plastic device knows exactly where to prune!

"And you keep it on for three days. And you can go to school, you can go to work, you are able to urinate; and, after three days, you report back to the clinic and you're healed, and you're fine," he said.

Motlanthe cautioned that while circumcision "significantly reduces the chances of infection by 50 to 60% ", it did not completely protect males from infection, or infecting others.

"The circumcision drive does not replace the core messages of abstaining, being faithful and condomising," he said.

Anyone wanna get "pruned"? :sick::D:D

Circumcision does not prevent aids and promoting this will only increase the spread of HIV as people will now believe they are immune to infection regardless of their disclaimer.

Wherever he got those figures from (50-60%) is seriously flawed.

This whole exercise is seriously misguided, and can only lead to a greater tragedy.

Well, even if you don't stop transmissions completely, dropping the infection rate would at least curb the spread slightly.

At least it's better than beet root :p

I doubt it will curb the rate at all.

Post snip these boys will be whoring away smug in their immagined immunity (Some might take a shower though)

I thought we were trying to move Africa away from the whole concept of genital mutilation? Are we finding new technology now to perform Medieval practices?

I think this might be a plan:

All the rapist and molesters can have a castration while they are at it, a slip of the knife...

Yea wow i bet once everyone has had their cover chopped off the idiots will think they are immune to getting infected.
