MotoGP 2020

Brad up to third in the championship now I think?

EDIT: not quite. Miller takes that spot now

I'd like to know how the penalties work. Because they penalised the Moto2 winner for exceeding the track limits (riding on the green) in the last corner but neither Miller nor Espargo were penalised. At least as far as I can tell. What's up with that?

And who decided Muir didn’t need two new tyres? That was a stupid move.

Miller didn't exceed track limits and he stood Pol up which is why he did... Not deliberate and no one gained an advantage.

Hard and fair racing.

He more than likely burnt them all up during qualifying

Yeah they were saying he didn't have any new soft or medium tyres

The other racers saved a set in case of a red flag

I needed a beer after that. Seems one isn’t enough! Fantastic excitement the whole weekend

Another great race. I reckon the restart didn't do Brad any favours because he was flying when the race was red flagged. Could have had top 3 but that's racing.

Interesting how Espargaro's attitude changed in one week when a flag advantaged him. But I agree he should have had a grid penalty for exceeding track limits. Miller wasn't that close and he gained an advantage by not slowing down.
Mir “angry” after Espargaro escapes track limits penalty

Lastly Marquez - As a fan I was hoping he'd add another title to his resume, but his absence has done MotoGP a world of good. If not for the injury he may well have been halfway home but now the title is race is wide open with many riders still in the run.

This track never stops producing exciting racing.

Brad is going to have to work on his qualifying if he wants to be a consistent challenger in MotoGP. Easily one of the fastest riders in the race, but having to fight your way up the field in MotoGP is a lot harder than it is in the junior categories.

Credit to Darryn as well, he is staying on his bike while being his usual divebomb self. Better qualifying would help him out as well as he also has to frequently come from further back and then kills his tyres by the end.

I agree, even though he's been a lot better this season.
3 finishes in a row has to be a new Darryn record.

On course for his best season.

9 races to go and only 20 points off of his career best. Highest he has ever been in the standings as well.

So with Oliveira winning in Styria, KTM now lose their concessions. What does this mean...

KTM will immediately lose the right to unlimited testing days. The four MotoGP™ riders won’t be able to test whenever they want, only on Official Test days, with test rider Dani Pedrosa unable to test at any GP circuit next season. In addition, the Austrian factory have to now choose three venues for the test riders to test on – this will come into play next year.

KTM’s engine allocation will be cut from nine to seven in 2021, and the exemption from the engine approval regulations is cancelled for the following season. KTM will also only be allowed to have three wildcards in 2021, instead of six.

So does this mean that from a championship perspective, KTM now move out of the independent section into the factory section? Does that go for the Tech 3 team too or just the main team?

This is the one aspect of MotoGP I still don't get. Petronas SRT Yamaha, LCR Honda and Pramac Ducati are all 'satellite' teams (offshoots of the main marques) so do they fall into the independent section? Is a satellite team different to an independent team?

Or does this mean Aprilia is now the only independent team left on the grid as they should still have all their concessions?

It affects the manufacturers, so Petronas SRT; Pramac; LCR and Tech 3 all fall under the same scope as their factory teams. So yep, Aprilia is the lone independent team. The ''Independent'' tag is a little confusing.

Regarding the question about what a factory team is; Red Bull KTM were always a factory team. Factory team is just the primary team of the manufacturer.

Red Bull KTM is the KTM factory team, Tech3 is the satellite team. They both contribute to KTM's concession points.

Repsol Honda is the Honda factory team, LCR Honda is the satellite. They both contribute to Honda's concessions points.

Monster Yamaha is the factory team, Petronas SRT the satellite. Both contribute to concessions.

Suzuki Ecstar and Aprilia Gresini are factory teams.

The only one I am unsure about is Avintia Racing (Zarco's team). Pramac are the Ducati satellite team, so no idea what they consider Avintia to be. Avintia are the only team on the grid to use year old bikes, so they likely not involved in in-season development.

What are you doing, step-bro?

Pilot Miguel Oliveira has wedding plans to marry … his stepsister

The Portuguese pilot Miguel Oliveira At 24, he has become the new star of MotoGP. Since his recent victory in Austria, where he was ahead of Australian Jack Miller and Spaniard Pol Espargaró, he has become the sportsman of fashion in his country and has gained an entourage of followers.

So much so that the Portuguese press has already got to work investigating the private affairs of this popular pilot. And the one that has surprised the most, as published by the newspaper ABC, is that he has wedding plans to marry … his stepsister.

Yes, Oliveira he plans to marry his stepmother’s daughter. His parents separated in 2003 and little Miguel, just 13 years old, stayed to live with his father. At first the two lived alone for a time, but soon after the man joined a new partner, who has two children from another marriage.

It was then that the young pilot fell in love with Andreia, the daughter of his father’s new partner. The relationship grew until they became inseparable, not only because they lived under the same roof but because of the passion that aroused between them.

Thus, eleven years have already passed since then until both confessed, in 2017, that they were in love. Now the couple plans to marry.

They know he's a MotoGP rider, why the hell do they keep referring to him as a pilot.

Translation.

In both Portuguese and Spanish, bike riders are referred to as ''piloto'' and the direct translation in to English is ''pilot''.

There is also a connection between early aircraft pioneers and motorcyle pioneers. The man credited with starting the aviation industry in the US - Glenn Curtiss - was first a pioneer in early motorcyles. Belgium played a prominent role in the early development of both the motorcyle and aero industries in Europe, with again the plane following the powered bike. Advancements in bike safety (leathers, helmets and googles) drew heavy inspiration from WW1 fighter pilots. Today's retro biking apparel would not look out of place at an aerodrome in France, circa 1916.

Bike riders have also been romanticised as fighter pilots as they flick their machines around and engage in dog fights. Daredevils and risk-takers.

Little op-ed comparing fighter pilots and motorcyclists.

A motorcycle is very similar to an aircraft, with very similar dynamics. Motorcycle racing at a very high level is basically flying on the ground. A motorcycle comes in, pitches into a corner, gets to 60 degrees of lean, there's two gravities going down through the tyre. That's exactly the same as of any aircraft when it pitches into a turn, and there's two gravities working against the wing, trying to tear it off.

It is actually no surprise that many of the early motorcycle racing pioneers were fighter pilots and aces from the second world war.

Making very few mistakes is one of the defining qualities of a motorcycle racer. They have a strong sense of self-preservation and an over-weaning confidence in their own ability. They are human then, but human of a rare type. Motorcycle racers have extraordinary hand-eye coordination, their cool heads in a fight, the combination of extreme discipline, dedication, training and testing, and the willingness to risk it all when the moment demands it.

Now that you mention it, I see it's not a native English speaking site.
Refers to Naomi Osaka as male  A vindictive Osaka...
