The Yamahas I think were just inherently slow in race trim. Quartararo was battling with pain, sure. But It's not like Morbidelli and Vinales were romping away. That being said, I expect them to right any wrongs this week and come out a lot stronger.

Ducati need warmer temperatures. They are battling at the moment when the temps are down. I also feel that the team needs to throw their weight behind Dovi in the title tilt. If that means Petrucci misses out on Q2 on a Saturday or points on Sunday by giving up a place to Dovi then so be it. They must surely recognise that he is now their only realistic title prospect. Hopefully racing at the same track in a week will allow them to iron out any problems and that, in conjunction with warmer temperatures, will push them forward.

Arguably Juan Mir's biggest obstacle for a race win ironically comes from within his own stable. Alex Rins is showing form again and he knows how to win. The Suzukis are the overall class of the field right now. That engine has come on in leaps and bounds since last year and they have fantastic edge grip and stability through the corners. If they can sort Saturday qualifying out, they have the race pace to comfortably come out on top.

Not sure what to make of KTM. One week they are threatening the podium, the next week they are on the fringes of the top 10. Possibly the restriction on mid season testing has scuppered their progress. The win in Brno only served to heighten expectation but they haven't been able to kick on since then. Still, this season has been an unreserved success.

It's a pity Alex Marquez isn't keeping his seat on the factory Honda. Looks like he is finally getting to grips with it and will be a thorn in the side of the championship contenders in the remaining rounds. Should be fun to watch. Based on current form, he should pip Brad to the rookie of the year title.

The same thing happened to JL99 on the Ducati when he could not get that Ducati to work. Then suddenly he won a few races and then signed up to ride for Honda the following season.

Its not that bad really.

Satellite teams receive the same equipment as the factory team and have access to the same technical data. Being a factory rider is more a status thing.

Speaking of satellite teams (and Honda), Takaagi Nakagami has had his excellent form rewarded with a contract extension that will see him stay with LCR Honda to the end of 2022.
 
Some weird deal between VR46 and Avintia (Esponsorama).

In order to get Luca Marini in to MotoGP, VR46 will give their Moto3 bikes to Avintia. The value of the bikes will then be deducted from the sponsorship for Marini, so VR46 will have to come up with less cash to get Marini into MotoGP. A grid slot in Moto3 is believed to be 300,000 euros, so getting the two bikes means Avintia gets around having to pay to race in Moto3 as well.

Apparently the boss of Avintia doesn't want his two MotoGP bikes to race in different colours and demanded more sponsorship money from VR46. With this deal, VR46 doesn't have to sponsor the bikes and Avintia doesn't have to ask for too much money from other potential sponsors.

Agreed on all of the above. Ducati is making me pull out what little hair I have left. With only three rounds left, Dovi now needs to be winning races, not just scraping through with a top 8. Even then it may not be enough. They've really butchered this season. How it's all gone so badly wrong this year for them, I don't know.

Disappointed for Brad. Still don't know what caused him to run into the back of Jack but I'm sure we'll find out in due course. A top 6 looked a distinct possibility today.

Should be a good end to the season now one way or the other.

Was really looking forward to seeing how the hard front was going to perform on the Honda last few laps but, alas...

Yamaha handed penalties, no effect on rider points​

After failing to respect MSMA technical changes protocols, Yamaha, Monster Energy Yamaha & Petronas Yamaha SRT are given points deductions​

Due to an internal oversight, Yamaha Motor Company failed to respect the protocol which requires them to obtain unanimous approval from MSMA for technical changes. For this reason, Yamaha Motor Company have had 50 World Championship Constructor points withdrawn. This is double the points earned whilst not respecting the protocol required for technical changes. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP have had 20 World Championship Team points withdrawn. This is the points earned whilst not respecting the protocol. Petronas Yamaha SRT have had 37 World Championship Team points withdrawn. This is also the points earned whilst not respecting the protocol.

This means the respective Championships now look like this:

A second negative Covid test this morning means The Doctor will be back on the grid on Sunday on his factory Yamaha in Valencia. He didn't participate in FP1 or FP2 though but I assume he'll be back for tomorrow's practice sessions and qualifying. I assume the fact that he didn't run today's practice sessions means he'll have to go through Q1 tomorrow?
 
Maverick Vinales to start from pit lane tomorrow as Yamaha has had to break out a new engine for him, exceeding their allocation.
Brad Binder to take a long lap penalty as well for punting Jack Miller off the track at Aragon 2.
