MotoGP 2022

I'd be surprised if this race gets underway in the next hour.
 
Quite the exciting race in the end! And what a ride from Darryn. Showed real maturity in those conditions in keeping it clean while battling.

Good damage limitation ride from Brad, all things considered.
 
Brad was so frustrating today, but he salvaged it at the end.

Somebody check on Simon Patterson. After that ride by Daz he must be in shambles. The big bike does really seem to be suiting him. I just wish we got to see more of that 8th - 13th scrap in the closing laps.

Also Brad divebombing his bro. Great stuff.

I have it on good authority that it wasn't raining in Indonesia, but it was in fact Patterson's tears flooding the track after his no.1 pick for a vacant MotoGP seat, Jake Dixon, crashed out in the Moto2 race.

Did anyone see Remy Gardner? I know Darryn didn't, he was too far ahead.
 
Well this puts everything in to perspective. The source of Brad's problems in the race? His ride height device was stuck down...

“I’m disappointed because I had a good feeling all weekend and especially with rain tires. Despite the rain the grip from the track was insane in some places. Unfortunately, I did the whole race with the ride height device down and to finish 8th is like a win. If it had been a dry race then I don’t think I would have been able to do anything. So, we got unlucky and lucky with the circumstances. It was difficult to bring the bike home so I’m happy. Argentina is a track I really enjoy. It will be my first time there on the MotoGP track so let’s see.”

That is damn unfortunate! KTM will have to look at that urgently as I'm sure this won't be the last wet race this year.

I know it's only two races but the KTM is looking like the real deal and the two factory team riders are dovetailing very nicely. They should be well in the manufacturer title hunt come November.

Very. Could've easily been a KTM double podium.

They have definitely started the season well and it is a strong rider pairing. There was a point last year where Miguel was looking like a title contender and then Brad found his feet toward the end, so if KTM and their riders can find consistency, they'll be a handful for everyone else.

I just think riders with reputations are a little salty that the guy who everyone thinks shouldn't be there is giving them a hard time.
 
I didn't watch the race but both could be true, i.e. he WAS riding "dangerously" (old moto3 tactics?) but also he had pace to stay out in front... And yes unfortunately his reputation precedes him

There were 7/8 riders in a group toward the end. Lots of hustle and bustle.

From the little we saw, Darryn wasn't doing anything the others were not. Indeed, Darryn got divebombed by his own bro in the end for 8th.

Darryn rode defensively but not dangerously. I love how you could see his eyes through his helmet when Brad bombed him.

Darryn rode well and will be a contender. I am happy he is in GP. I think he is going to ruffle some feathers as long as he manages to stay on his bike. Unfortunately, I do see a bit of Simoncelli in him which scares me.

That was an awesome shot of him checking who was bombing him.

He is definitely fearless - Jack Miller said if anyone has the balls to jump from Moto3 to MotoGP it is Darryn.

Eyes went huge! I can only imagine the conversation at dinner on Sunday night :D

EDIT: In the back of my mind I was wondering how they would handle a bit of a scruff against each other and if there would be bias. I am relieved that big bro Binder answered that question for me. Totally professional bomb. He was like, "You little schit! I am coming through!".

Agreed.

He is a bit of a dipshit and has an awful reputation. So far, he is proving his detractors wrong in the melee of uncharacteristic flyaway races and the general chaos associated with a heap of rookies all finding their feet. I do find it bizarre that he gets blind adulation just because he happens to be a Saffa.

That reputation though was largely born out of the need to take unnecessary risks to get the most out of a bike completely unsuited to him. Darryn is a big guy and it showed on those comparatively small bikes where being small of stature is key. On the bigger MotoGP bike, that need to take those risks should be far less. That's not to say that he won't battle hard but where most rational people will see hard (and hopefully fair) battling, his critics will see it as dangerous riding and "Darryn being Darryn".

Perhaps some of them will. That is the nature of the game. Unfortunately, there is added weight and handwringing from this new regime of primarily twitter and reddit spackers who feel the need to sperg out and vehemently state their case at every opportunity. That is noise.

There is a rulebook and a governing body and the feedback from them is the only thing that matters. Along with the championship points and gap to the podium of course. Long may he continue his current form and hope it translates to the European circuit.
