Motorcycle license advice

I have a friend that tried to do his license on his 600cc and 1000cc bikes about 4 times already.
He keeps failing because you have to be going 25kmph through the trap in 2nd gear, and his bike simply cannot do that without almost redlining the revs.

How do you manage to do 25kmph in 2nd gear with your 1000cc bike? It's much easier to do on a 250 or 400...

Whaaaat, the few bikes I've tried on the course have never had this issue, usually had to underrev or i'd fly away at 50+ in 2nd. Is his clutch/petrol control not a bit offish?

*Edit: yes i've tried to see what's the max I could hit before the traps in first and second

Sorry, meant to say underrev, to the point where the bike would stall. :P

Now there we're making more sense ;)

I usually aim for 30km/h when testing a bike for the course, you just need the initial takeoff velocity, most cycles can cruise in 2nd gear anywhere beyond ~20km/h. Usually by the time you've hit the velocity and swapped to 2nd gear the entire maneuver is completed. I suspect your friend may be trying to skid by on the bare minimum with regards to speed esp considering how some speedometers are underclocking by up to ~10km/h

you know the price for lessons

Whoops - sorry missed this question in the thread - anyway, don't know what his current rates are. Will PM you his contact details - give him a call
