Motorist kills attacker

You bet they will - he killed him then fled the scene - that is clear cut murder - had he stayed to explain he would have had a case - now he's gonna get hit left right and center and made to look like it was a race attack.

This guy is in big ****. I feel very little sympathy for the robber, but chasing the thief down and shooting him without further provocation was a BAD move. It might feel right, but it's going to cost this guy when the cops catch up with him.

We actually need more like him... unfortunetly the police are more interested in people like him than catching the real criminals. He did their job for them.

"We need proper policing, not a bunch of self appointed executioners."

Agreed.. but in the interim while waiting for that to happen, I'm all for
citizens killing criminals who try to hurt them or steal their possessions.

Once the effective policing is in place, naturally this idea should fade away :P

as it has in the US?

re "as it has in the US?"

Not sure what you mean. Been in the US for 2 years, and have met no one
who's been a victim of crime, and heard of no one whose been robbed, attacked, burgled or worse.
Can anyone in SA say the same?

Thats not to say there isn't crime in the US, but its minuscule in comparison to SA.
The US also has pretty effective policing. And a structured society which regards 'crime' as unacceptable,
and acts to stamp it out.

SA is in a state of nation-wide civil unrest - you can't even call it 'crime' as its too widespread.
That's like calling a 'war' - a 'disagreement'. Incorrect usage of language.

badly expressed but my point merely that pretty effective policing in the US has not gone hand in hand with a decrease in citizens bearing and using arms to protect themselves and their property

But the laws in the US protect more the victims than here, where they protect the criminal.

And the US get a bonus point for having the death penalty :D

If they find this driver he will end up in jail without a doubt. You cannot do that and then still leave the scene as well.
Groot k@k.

So then its OK if I kill the guy in the golf who went through a red a light, putting me and my family in danger (hypothetical situation) or the guy who almost runs me off the road on the highway, because he was too busy on his cell phone to check if the left lane was clear before he changed lanes?

I'm all for killing criminals, but the rules must be clear and consistent not based on how pissed off the victim of the crime is.
