Johannesburg - A motorist was shot dead when he accused a man of skipping a stop street in Bonaero Park, east of Johannesburg, metro police said.

"The victim was shot point-blank into the face when confronting a driver who allegedly he was accusing of skipping a stop street," said Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.

The shooter had two school children in his car with him at the time of the incident, around 07:40.

Kgsasago said the driver of a VW Jetta apparently did not stop at a stop street in Daeraad Street. He was then pursued by a man driving an Isuzu bakkie.

Both vehicles stopped, and the driver of the Isuzu got out and walked up to the Jetta driver, sitting in the car with the two children.

A confrontation ensued and the Jetta driver pulled out a gun and shot the Isuzu driver in the face.

He was arrested and would appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court within 48 hours.

Kgasago said the name of the 53-year-old victim can only be made public once all his next of kin had been informed of his death.

He said there were emotional scenes after the shooting.

"The wives arrived and both were hysterical."

Idiots haven't learned their lessons yet.
Do not get involved in road rage altercations.

On second thought, I don't think my Brother in-law owns a gun. He's always scared of my gun when we visit there and I have to put it on top of the fridge...

He feared for his and his kids' lives.

Please note this is speculation only. Just putting it here before someone asks if I was there or where the evidence. There are people here like that. Hell, he can use it as a defense.

The fridge is odd, why not a safe?

He doesn't own a safe. The reason I'm suspecting he doesn't have a gun.

He insists I put mine there so it's out of reach of the children. We normally dop a bit and I suspect he doesn't like alcohol and guns mixing. I have never had issues. I put it on the fridge and take it when we leave.

He doesn't fear for their lives enough to stop at a stop street (allegedly)

They get super angry when someone tries to kill them by not paying attention to driving or similar, can be called a blind rage, thinking goes out of the window.

If nobody was hurt, then why start an altercation.
It's plain stupidity in any scenario to exit your vehicle if there was no accident. Mutter to yourself, call the other driver a po3s, hoot if you really have to. But to follow someone and then approach their window - that's asking for a bullet

Understandably. One's husband is dead, the other's is going to spend years in jail.

Most of us have it in our heads that we need to police the roads our selves.

Look... Skipping a stop sign or red light is very dangerous. I always hoot at people who do it.

But following and forcing someone off the road is something completely different... that is just asking for trouble. This guy will probably get off with the murder charge if he was forced off the road... because he had his kids with him.

He can just say it looked like a hijacking.
