Hi everyone, I just saw that MTN has the Motorola Defy for R129pm.

I'm curious as to whether this is a decent deal? I like the fact that it's android, decent performance, and also comes with the water resistance, dust proof, and drop resistant. Why the water resistance, dust proofing and drop resistance is nice is because I've had a SE K850i that was dropped to pieces, fell into a toilet (twice) and also into the Juskei River. My current phone is a Nokia N86, which has survived a trip into the toilet too, but the screen cracked from a rather undramatic drop.

So, I'm by no means delicate with my phones. But the question is that should I wait around for another decent android phone with better specs? I'm looking at around R130-R160 pm contract (and preferably a topup contract so I have freedom to buy data bundles when I want etc).

The Samsung Wave 2 at Cell C for R99pm is also and excellent deal.

Yeah, go for it - Moto's and Androids make good bedfellows!

The specs are decent - almost the same as the HTC Desire...

But if you're looking for tough - have you looked at any Sonim phones?

You also saw that in the Yello magazine Scotty?

I have been waiting for MTN to release this phone for almost 2 months now and they never responded to my emails until i saw it in the yello magazine.
I called them up and they told me that the phone isn't available(even though i clearly saw it in the yello magazine at the advertised price).

I was then rudely informed that the Motorola MB525 or Defy will only be available in the middle of June and when i asked them to remove the advert from the website they flat out refused.

I accused them of false advertising and wrote the incident out on Hellopeter around 4 days ago and got the ol standard response stating that they are looking into the matter immediately.

I still have received no response from this laid back little yello company.

I hope that the lady that i spoke to was either stupid or misinformed.

The Moto Defy is my dream phone for its ruggedness and i need it for my job, but MTN don't care a flying **** for their subscribers.

Vodacom has pretty given me the same shyte... Been to vodashops, and even Vodaworld, they either don't have the phones, or are just too lazy to sign people up on android phones (I'm guessing they'd rather order 100 black berry curves, that will be sold in a week, than a couple android phones...)
Either way, it really burns my arse that I've been denied something I WANT! If you saw my current phone, you'd think it's been passed through a world war.

Looks like the only way you get service is if you walk into a shop, start bitching and moaning, then lose your temper and really go ape shyte. Otherwise, settle for a black berry (god no)

Totally agree man.

I just submitted my feedback about MTN's response and feel angry as i have followed all the rules and procedures, yet they get away with false advertising and barely a slap on the wrist.
GGGRRRRRRRR.

I really really want that phone cos my phone doesn't even want to switch on anymore without a weekly hard reset.
I really do not want a fruity phone and will not settle for less then the advertised Moto DEFY!

I will bombard MTN direct every day with the same email until they give me a satisfactory answer, and i feel i have irritated them enough.
