i dont understand why a chopper is like 17k for mats, I mean :wtf:

also wanted to ask, what mounts do you get where you can carry a friend?

I know there is the motorbike with the side caddy thing, and Ive been on a rocketship...

anything else?

Mammoth? Those are about all of them.

and with regards to the cost of mats, its all boils down to balancing the games economy which is a extremely tricky process, blizzard regularly remove large sums of gold from the world, (i noticed this myself, on some quests, receiving less amounts than previous times).
 
chopper is 12.5k engineer only mats, so you can farm the rest with mining etc, normally you can buy everything for 14k +/-

you get black war mammoth in voa rare drop.
ice mammoth from sons of hodir think its 9k could be wrong.

think there's more, ya the touring rocket is nice you can get from recruit a friend but not ground mount :(
 
If memory serves me right, the PVP mammoth from VOA can carry passengers, the rocket has a exstra seat, the chopper... hmmm thats about it.

There are a few stunning mounts that are almost impossible to obtain, but they are purely cosmetic and some with a speed boost... eg. ashes of alar, and there is the trading card mounts like the spectral tiger.
 
The mammoth mounts that allow passengers is the Grand Black War Mammoth (VOA Drop), the Grand Ice Mammoth (Sons of Hodir, 8K Gold @ Exalted) and the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth (Kirin Tor, 16K Gold @ Exalted).

Other mounts that I know is the Engineering Chopper and the Rocket from RAF.
 
mounts are not expensive. novelty fun mounts are expensive. in todays stage of the expansion gold is basic to make. u can easily get 5k a day with little effort.
 
These mounts are so expensive for 1 very simple reason:

The amount of gold that can be obtained in WoW is insane. For this reason there needs to be a way where "rich" players can sink their massive amounts of gold. When WoTLK came out players came into WoTLK with massive amounts of gold saved up. So what do you do to prevent the economy from going balls up? You give them exclusive shinny items (with an achievement linked to it) to burn their gold reserves down.

They are what is know as "Gold Sinks". This is done to keep the economy healthy.

personally all i do is prospect ore. sell epic gems + powder and buy eternal earth an make necklaces DE them an sell mats. u can make about 250g profit depending on ur AH
