So my faithful and loyal Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical is dying. It randomly stops responding now and then for a few seconds for no apparent reason. I am looking for a new mouse now preferably for gaming (fps games). Does anyone have any recommendations, not something to break the bank to no R.A.T's please :P

Razer abyssus. Fairly cheap, does not have a million buttons and works really well for gaming. Ambidextrous just in case you are a lefty :D

Cool thanks for the quick reply, do you have it by any chance? I need to make sure I get something called a "claw grip" mouse, since apparently that's how I hold them.

I've decided to go with the A4tech x7, anyone know anything about it? My friend has one and seems pretty happy with it.

I'd guess that your mouse's cable is damaged. I've replaced 2 of my MX500's buttons, as well as its cable.

I really can't recommend an A4Tech mouse for gaming. For gaming it should either be a Logitech or Razer mouse.
There are a few other brands that also have a few good mice, like Microsoft, SteelSeries and Coolermaster.

The MX518 is a good mouse, but it is using quite outdated technology by now.
For under R300, I'd also recommend the Razer Abyssus - http://www.prophecy.co.za/razer-abyssus-optical-mouse-p-62002.html
The Abyssus' buttons & sensor are more sensitive than that of the MX518, and it doesn't cost much more expensive either.

Logitech mx518

Not very useful just blurting out a mouse without a reason.

Oddly enough it's not the cable afaik, I've tried to trigger the problem by playing with the cable and I can't reproduce it. I think it's just old I've had it for years now. I will look at the Abyssus again, thank you.

Look at the roccat Kone or Kova, coolermaster Sentinel or Inferno and the MS x5 or x8.

I've looked at them all actually, I've been in the market for a full upgrade for a long time, unfortunately I have to upgrade now when the cash has escaped me so I am forced to get a mouse that I wouldn't consider in the first place. But thanks anyway.

Same thing happened to my mouse, I bought a logitech optical mouse and responds way better than my old microsoft mouse I had

I got it from Incredible Connection

Yeah the old Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical just works , I use Logitech netscroll now , works perfectly for my need , also less chance of carpal tunnel syndrome than high end laser mice ( mousesessese ) :)

It sucks when something you have used for years and have come to love just decides to kick the bucket :( I'm going to a Pc shop later today to just get a mouse that does the job, nothing fancy or anything, hopefully they sell Microsoft/Logitech mice and I might see a distant cousin of mine :D

I've had my mx518 for a few months now - still getting used to it as I also use a "claw grip" but my hand has actually adjusted to fit the mouse very nicely. Would definitely recommend it to anyone purchasing a mouse on a budget ;)

Good luck finding a mouse at the store...I still love using my old Microsoft mouse (use it with my laptop).

Our mouse died last year. We have her buried in the back garden in a shoe box. She brought us joy :(

In the same boat with my mouse's middle button on the fritz. Logitech seems to make the most reliable mice if you get a decent one, note decent not expensive, had a cheep MX that lasted through years and years of abuse. Roccat seems to make some good ones but haven't owned any personally yet.

So now that I have this new mouse, I have gotten used to it and all but guess what....

The mouse at random times stops responding completely, can't click movie or anything, I have to disconnect the mouse and reconnect it again for it to work again. also sometimes the X or the Y axis would stop working so sometimes the mouse would only move left or right or up and down... sigh what must I do now? :( Must I RMA the mouse? I got it from Rebeltech last month..

Well that definitely isn't a normal thing for any mouse :)

I'd first just make sure you have the latest drivers for both your USB (motherboard) and the mouse, just to cover all your bases. If that doesn't work then I'd say talk to them, have them talk to the supplier to ask if it is RMA'able which, I'm sure it is, and then send it back. The Razer supplier is quite easy with their products and has it tested quite quick. We've had some items that came in and we got notified within 10 mins that the problem does exist and it was replaced. Just make sure you give a full fault description when sending it in. Sometimes the manufacturers are tricky and only tests for what the description says.

That sucks. Had my mx510 for nearly 7 years now (had to count that twice to make sure). Opened it up and re-soldered the USB a few times as the copper in the cable breaks after a while. Otherwise still going strong.

Thanks guys for the replies, what I have done for now is uninstall the Razer software for the mouse to see if that isn't what was causing the problem, if I get a problem again I will talk to Rebel Tech about it.

Hi

Please return it if you have anymore problems so that we can test :)

Thanks

Thus far I have not had a single issue with the mouse since uninstalling the software for it, I find this strange though as surely if there was a problem with the software other people would also be experiencing issues? Hmm must be an isolated problem for me, otherwise I'm happy with the mouse :)

I had the following driver/software installed on my Windows 7 64bit when I had problems with the mouse:
Razer Lachesis 5600DPI Windows Driver v3.00
http://www.razersupport.com/index.p...&parentcategoryid=152&pcid=80&nav=0,76,169,80

I am attempting to contact Razer via Twit her to report the possible problem with the driver since it seems like I am the only person with the problem (as usual) :D
