Haha just watched it now as well. The entire army did sweet f-all but one guy could take down everyone :D

Decent action flick for a Friday I think, not meant to be taken seriously.
It was just like the first Die Hard (Can't believe I'm comparing it to a classic) - one man takes down everything, though he was no John McClain.

I'll have to add WHD to the list :)

White House Down - 6.5/10

Probably one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in years and will definitely watch it again. Lots of it is full of epic LOLs but quite serious as well. I almost died laughing when my friend leaned over halfway to tell me that the main bad guy has no eye brows :D :D

Good action film. It loses points for being predictable and the bit at the end with the kid was just a bit of a meh moment.

Compared to Olympus Has Fallen? I think it is better (read: more entertaining) but OHF is definitely way more serious. The way the White House is taken in this film is more plausible though.

...and Jamie Fox is an awesome president ;)

EDIT: you should take these films for what they are. You know up front it is going to be a skop, skiet and donner movie with no Academy nominations.

+1
I watched White House Down too and for me it was very entertaining. It was way better the Olympus Has Fallen. It's the sort of movie not to be taken very seriously. I'm giving it 7/10.

Man of Steel

8/10

Best Superman of our times, solid acting, story line and probably more dark/serious. I also felt a "touch" of Smallville in there.

Action and special effects were typical of Zack Snyder, epic and over the top though I don't think it's anything we haven't seen before, especially with all these Avenger movies.

The 3D didn't wow me, it would've passed fine on 2D.

Would be interesting to see how they continue from here, hope they keep the momentum.

Despicable Me 2

Went to see this in 3D. The movie was excellent!! It lived up to the expectations after the first version. It was entertaining, very, very funny and I just loved the Minions, which got more attention in this version.

If anyone plans on seeing this or taking the kids out to see this, do this now and watch it in 3D!

9/10

Despicable Me 2 - 7.5/10

The minions are AWESOME :D
The story is the normal "good guy catches bad guy" thing but it feels just so much more grown up and polished than your average animation. The "end fight" was a bit meh though but the minions singing at the end makes up for it - BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

That said, it's not a film I'd go watch again any time soon but very happy I saw it at last once :)

Lone Ranger - 4.5/10

What a disappointment. What a mess.

Depp and Hammer give very good performances. In fact most of the acting is great. Depp has a few one liners that totally cracks you up and the story, overall, is good but nothing overly complex or new.

So what makes it bad? The film is long, drawn out and you just never "connect" with it. You never really start "loving" or rooting for any of the characters. Most of the film has a very macabre feel to it and then the "end fight" comes with jolly music, an overload of special effects and at a completely different pace than the rest of the film. It just doesn't fit.

And then there is the cut scenes between the old Tonto and a young boy at a museum display...which just doesn't make sense. It's actually ****ing irritating and confusing.

A simpler recipe would've worked way better. The film is trying to be too fancy with the camera work/effects/editing.

Seriously disappointing :(

World War Z - 6.5/10

Liked:
- The scale, some of the hordes were pretty huge.
- The way the plague spreads (virus) is more plausible than traditional zombie flicks.

Disliked:
- The lack of gore. This is a must for me in a zombie movie. If you're expecting gory scenes like those in TWD then you will be disappointed.
- The 'solution' is implausible. They try to make it seem like it makes sense, but it really doesn't.

Anyway it's a decent action movie and worth the watch if you have nothing better to do.

Killing Season - 3/10

What a load of crap, expected more from a movie starring De Niro & Travolta.

3D or not to 3D?
