Hmmm...this is ok...not very scary, but a few bumps in the night...6/10
 
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)

Now this shit will mess with your head. The story occurs in 1983 and happens in the Arboria Institute, a "wellness centre". Drugs...and hallucinations...escape and death. If you are not into slow movies, avoid this. The music gives this movie it's feel...an 80's music video about madness.

The Gunman (2015) 7/10

From the Director of Taken (2008). "An ex-soldier who carried out an assassination in the Democratic Republic of the Congo finds his past catching up with him eight years later."

Old-looking Sean Penn pulls a Rambo-move here; if action is your game you're in-store for a good high intensity watch. Elements of the movie was shot in Cape Town as well though you would never say.

Yip Sean look very aged but surprisingly buffed. Quite freaky actually.


Dark Places 5/10. Misfire from Charlize Theron in this borefest. We've the family massacre scenario told in flashbacks a million times before.
 
The November Man (2014) 7/10

Pierce Brosnan plays an ex-CIA agent on the run; all the making of a good action thriller. Enjoyed this more than his role in <Survivor> (2015).
 
MI: Rougue Nation - 6/10 entertaining skiet, skop en donder. Better than the one shot in Dubai or thereabouts but in the end more of the same

Unfriended (2014) 6.5/10

This one is very hard to place. It's a "supernatural horror film" for the Web 2.0 kids/teens of today but shot in a very unusual way. The entire movie is a Conference Call Skype (call). It's "fresh" I'll give it that & it shows the extend of cyberbullying in this day & age. It's only 1h23mins so worth a watch.

Check out Open Windows with Elijah Wood...pretty neat use of communication apps to tell a story.
 
Hercules (2014) - 7/10

I agree with this critic's review:

Scott Foundas, chief film critic for Variety wrote in a positive review that "It's a grandly staged, solidly entertaining, old-fashioned adventure movie that does something no other Hercules movie has quite done before: It cuts the mythical son of Zeus down to human size (or as human as you can get while still being played by Dwayne Johnson)," and further added that "[Hercules's] strongest asset is surely Johnson, who continues to foster one of the most affable, guileless screen personas in movies today."

Typical Adam Sandler "comedy" which is to say its very crap; predicable story; phony acting & zero redeeming features.


The Bag Man (2014) 6/10

Average action thriller with John Cusack; story a bit long winded.

Watched this a second time in 3D on my own TV, after watching it in 3D in cinema. The cinema's 3D projection was a f-up, so vowed to rewatch it when I could download it. So I did. Would like to up my score and change my opinion.

Mad Max Fury Road 9/10

Dislikes:
1. The hype is justified. It is awesome.
2. The movie was awesome.

Likes:
1. Effects were good, no. It was awesome.
2. The scene was well set. Scenery is awesome!!
3. Actors playing the part well. No. Awesomely!!!!!
 
Ant Man - 5/10. Average superhero flick and the plot is rather thin even for a superhero movie. I suppose it works as an intro for the Ant Man character when they do incorporate it into the Avengers films.
