Son of Batman (2014) and it's sequel Batman vs. Robin (2015)

8/10 I loved it, the art the story. Two short (between an hour and 90min) easy to watch films.

Interesting

Not really.

Spectre will appeal to a certain audience.

This audience does not include real James Bond fans who liked the older James Bond movies, the way it was intended by Ian Flemming. In fact, an IMDB rating of only 7.1 already confirms this. There are also a number of reviews online and in news media confirming this.

It is one of those movies, you will either be disappointed (as a real Bond fan) or you will like it. I do not think there is any middle-ground here.

Spectre - 6.0 - 6.5/10

Continued some of the positive notes from Skyfall - score, cinematography, effective use of colour etc., but weaker in terms of writing and plot.

The plot was just too bloody obvious, and they squandered Andrew Scott's talent, imo.

Wrecker (2015) 4/10

A cat and mouse game involving a tow truck (full size) & some chicks in a Mustang when they make short cut in the desert. Its crap as its boring; extremely unrealistic & all round shoddy.

So you're saying real James Bond fans who prefer the older stuff loved Skyfall as the IMDB rating confirmed it?

Operator (2015) 4/10

Action thriller about a 911 Call Centre Operator's daughter being kidnapped. She must obey the kidnapper's rules. One dimensional role from Mischa Barton & so many plot holes its not even funny.

I Smile Back (2015) 6.5/10

A great job by Sarah Silverman; her chacacter on the face of it has a perfect life but underneath battles depression & mental illness.

Wolf Children - 7/10. Beautiful animation but slow paced story, I wasn't fully gripped.

I enjoyed it a lot, didn't feel rushed. watched studio Ghibli classics this week

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi(Spirited Away) - 10/10. Masterpiece, just a joy to watch and looks beautiful in 1080p

Mononoke Hime(Princess Mononoke) 10/10. the story is timeless, cinematography is incredible. one of the best Miyazaki films.

Omoide no Marnie(When Marnie Was There) - 10/10. Also slow paced, simple story but heart warming and beautiful.

It does have a Studio Ghibli vibe but I didn't take to it so much which is a shame.

When Marnie Was There was great, I'm waiting for an English voiceover to rewatch it with the kids. I think I gave it an 8.

Men, Women & Children (2014) 7/10

"A group of high school teenagers and their parents attempt to navigate the many ways the Internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives." Interesting look about how online behavior & addiction affects present day life. Great job by the ensemble cast incl Adam Sandler.

These are the cinema movies that I have seen so far in 2015

  • St. Vincent: 7.7 / 10
  • Birdman: 7.9 / 10
  • Still Alice: 8.5 / 10
  • The Theory Of Everything: 7.2 / 10
  • Spare Parts: 8 / 10
  • A Little Chaos: 4 / 10
  • Inside Out: 9.5 / 10
  • Sicario: 8 / 10
  • The Peanuts Movie: 6 / 10

Thanks.. First movie I'll probably watch at the cinema this year

Was definitely worth a watch (and this coming from someone who has seen zero of the Rocky franchise)

(Leave me alone)

The Walk - 7/10

I saw the 2008 documentary, Man on Wire and thought a dramatisation could work well. It did.

From IMDB:

In 1974, high-wire artist Philippe Petit recruits a team of people to help him realize his dream: to walk the immense void between the World Trade Center towers.

Yeah, it was surprisingly good! I cannot believe I did not go watch this in iMax - it would have been an experience!

The heights in 2D was hectic enough, don't think I would have enjoyed it in 3D. ;)
