Movie Trailers Thread

Looks good to me (I was in the Navy for years on frigates so fairly critical about accuracy). Just hope the CGI isn't "video game".

two things killed it for me:

- German sub commander making contact with the enemy, breaking radio silence and giving away his position.

- Bouncing torpedo. By the time the US were actively escorting convoys, the Germans had already employed a new generation of torpedoes that had addressed the issues with their detonators, both magnetic and contact. The torp didn't even have to make contact with the target if using the magnetic detonator, instead it would detonate below the keel and break the ship's back.

Interesting video on the worst American weapon of World War 2 namely the Mark 14 torpedo. It does list valid reasons why any torpedo will fail to detonate either through its contact or magnetic detonator.
1) oblique hit not triggering the contact detonator due to lateral acceleration jamming the mechanism
2) local earth magnetic field variation not triggering the magnetic detonator.

Yeah there was a big issue with the magnetic detonators on the German torpedos not working correctly due to the artic magnetic fields. They did eventually correct it though.

Battle for the Atlantic hasn't been covered too much on film so I'll give it a watch, as a fan of WW2 ships and subs Won't take much to be better than the recent Midway movie, I live in hope.

Did you build the Tirpitz?

And agreed, lack of modern authentic movies on naval warfare.

The two movies I want to see made are Jutland and 'The hunt for the Bismarck'. Preferably made by Germans/Brits as they make more authentic war films.

Unfortunately I didn't, I picked it about 2 years up for an absolute steal, built and painted for R250. Think the guy was in financial trouble.

Just finished building Hood but need to set aside time to paint it.

Love the Hood.

Do you play video games? If so, have you played World of Warships?

The store where I bought the model had 3 to choose from, Bismarck, Hood and Ark Royal, rather ironic! Yeah I play Wows, prior to that Pacific Stations Midway was my ship jam.

Nice, you could put the whole gang together. I've never attempted to build any warships. Building airplanes stretched my patience enough and the ships are way more intricate.

You need to add the Battle off Samar and the engagement between the Liberty Ship SS Stephen Hopkins and the
German auxiliary cruiser Stier on that list.
