...moving away from WebAfrica

If you are having problems at the moment then buy a prepaid account from a SEACOM ISP like Afrihost rather than canceling your account and losing out on the special deal you have.

I'll def check into it...nice suggestion...thx Abe...

I think i might go for this Afrihost 4-10Mb line "uncapped"...works out R900 including line rental (ADSL)...although download is only 4Mb/s

Afrihost's capped products are excellent, but search through these forums for opinions about their uncapped ones before you take the leap.

I suggest you utilise resellers like OpenWeb or TRLTech; as they can immediately change the backhaul provider should there be an issue unlike Afrihost which relies on IS or WebAfrica and MWEB - dinosaur's can't tap dance!

You don't want to see the same trace routes on WA.

Review these and it is clear these ISP's are not a viable option: (unreliable comes to mind)

I have to agree atm. Cybersmart latency looks much better than webafrica.

I play leagueoflegends. I get with a cybersmart based account in game about 195ms-210ms. I was actually shocked when I saw in the loading screen that my ping is yellow @ 195ms.

Webafrica seems to stay at 249ms. not bad too but they were always my go to ISP for best internation latency. Seems things have changed. :(

I get my cybersmart based bandwidth from branded internet reseller.

I see most of them is R450 for 50GB I bet you can find them cheaper.

Just google "2011 Branded Internet CC"

You will get a wide range of branded internet based ISP's all selling the same stuff just under different names. just search for the cheapest 1. :-)

Looks like I'm going to have to look at other options myself now

Have an issue with BI as it is not truly unshaped, TRL's offer seems much better on the throughput side - ask TRL for a test account to confirm.

I'm tired of these greedy local ISP's with their "Silver", "Gold and "Platinum" crap - any excuse to squeeze the consumer for a few extra $.

I do a Google search of their site and if those three terms appear, I stay clear - of the bull****.

I have to admit that were it not for my RedAfrica account, I would not consider WA as an ISP with the way things are currently. The premium price is supposed to provide you with a premium connection, but it seems like every R19/GB ISP is providing a better service.

I am on the verge of cancelling, RedAfrica or not. Their network has degraded to such a point that it is no longer pleasant using the internet.

Agreed.

I certainly do not recommend WA to anyone - in fact, just the opposite at this stage
