Moving back to SA

Complete nonsense. Try spending some time off News24/IOL/CA.

It is not complete nonsense, it is my personal experience in daily life and as I said, it depends on what your standards are and what your expectations are, whether you find this country a balmy peace loving nation of rainbow people or whether you are horrified by the corruption, cruel crimes and education levels - the choice is yours, but don't just call my reality nonsense.

It is my personal experience, how can you tell me that my experiences and interpretation of reality is nonsense ?

You are welcome to disagree though if your experiences have taught you that South Africa is just fine, and that things are as they should be and that our kids have a bright and prosperous future to look forward to, in which they will flourish.

Every country has it's issues, we can't just run away. Stick it out and be a part of the solution for a better tomorrow. Kumbaya guys, Kumbaya!

Note that I mainly singled out the race aspect. Your post attempts to describe SA for a white person. "Target on chest", "inevitably racist", "people who despise your race". Absolute hogwash, your fantasy not reality.

And regarding eventual economic failure... Bwahaha. It's no wonder you're living a fantasy, carrying negative and simply incorrect sentiments like that.

Personal experience? No. I doubt you experienced a fraction of what you claim up there.
Sounds like a prophesy to me. Of the self fulfilling kind.

Its not a white people thing, its a some white people thing. Normally from those living in horrible places like Jozi (though not limited to it). I cant understand people who cant make money in SA. Its easier to make money here than most places. The industries are still developing... there should be lots of opportunity for skilled labor.

Most people I know who went abroad are now back. Welcome back!

Ive been to many countries, real 3rd world countries, and South Africa is pretty good. Nothing I have seen can beat the quality of life I have here. You know a South African has not travelled when they think SA is 3rd world. They need to go to a real 3rd world country to get a wake up call. South Africa is 2nd world and a fantastic place to live. Better weather, better woman, better food than most places in the world, and easy as heck to make money if you are skilled labor.

Exactly, some people find living here just fine, other people can't cope with the stress and prefer a more first world experience,
people differ and have different needs.

You will always have people who are attached to their home culture and people who are not, people who leave and never look back, and people who will always miss home.

The diaspora of the white South African, we have spread everywhere and there where we go, we take our home in our hearts with us, so now you can eat boerewors all over the world :)

Very true. Shame. Let them be off to another concrete jungle then in the temperate zones.

Some of us believing in staying behind and fixing what those before us broke. SA is a great place to live. Go to a real 3rd world country and get perspective.

I think some miss the sheltered existence of old. For the majority of SA, the crime situation hasn't changed at all. In fact, for most the standard of living has improved dramatically. Freedom of movement has had the unfortunate consequence of exposing more of us to the realities of SA and the government doesn't think appeasing the middle class a priority.

Ok I don't mean to be an ******* but if you live here and don't want to but can't leave, too effing bad for you. There are alot of people stuck in much worse places, so deal with it.

/rant off

She cannot. She's an intellectual and an academic. In other words, a 'coward'.

Really, perhaps it is I who have been living in a reality of rape, assault, and 13 home burglaries, while raising my two children.
I was also chased from a play park as a little 8 year old girl and told that I would be killed if ever seen again.

My children and I have been severely discriminated against by Christians (for being atheist), by people in our own (the white) community for being non-racist and for being non nationalists.

I am both and they are not synonymous with cowardice. SA is not producing enough academics, so unless you are a primary school teacher or something, there should be plenty of opportunity for you here as we have skill shortages.

Yes, exactly and why should get so upset about it ?
If I encourage young people to go experience another way of living, a modern progressive society, you take exception ?

Maybe if you were one you would have understood. But being both, you missed the point. :o

That post wasn't directed at you, I don't care who you encourage to do what. I take exception to the people that whine that they can't leave.

Well to some of us our own lives are more important than fixing other peoples' problems. The country is run by clowns that care more about themselves than anything, and most of the country supports and votes for them.
F**k trying to stay here and fix it when most of the country would rather have the idiots that are f**king everything else in charge.

That said if I can do things from abroad to improve SA like invest in South African businesses then I will. I just wont suffer for it by living there for my whole life.

All right.

If you don't have a choice of leaving, then you just have to accept that fact and get on with it, only a small minority have the means or the choice of leaving.

I don't have a choice and I have accepted that this is my reality, however I will not compromise on my true nature and my moral and ethical standards, thus I encourage young progessive people to leave if it is a modern and progressive lifestyle they want.

Neither do I consider people who leave the country as traitors or cowards, the choice is theirs and they are part of the diaspora which is good and progressive, South Africans are tough people and can adapt elsewhere.

I don't have a choice and I have accepted that this is my reality...
Can you elaborate more about that? You seem to be an intellectual/academic person that can use his/her skill elsewhere.
