Moving from MTN anytime 200 to Cell C 99c?

My contract is up, and i am seriously considering moving from MTN to Cell C prepaid for their 99c per minute deal.

Currently I pay R200 per month for my contract. My in bundle rate per minute on MTN is R2.30 and out of bundle R2.85 per minute.

With Cell C from the above MTN rates, I am saving easily up to 50% on calls. The one thing though is i have to buy my new cell phone cash - i am planning to get the S3, so R7500 up front.

My current bill is approx R500 per month, if i go with the same usage, i figure i will be saving approx R250 per month over 24 months, that works out to R6000. Almost covers the cost of the phone.

Oh, i bought the 99c sim, loaded some airtime - signal on voice and data looks good in my area - voice is clear and I am getting 3G and sometimes HSDPA speeds.

Anybody have any major issues with Cell C? Any other things i should consider before downgrading to prepaid and then porting?

For now use prepaid with current phone. Next few months will be restructuring Cell C contracts to match 99c tarrifs, you will be able to pickup a deal with contract. I know a guy who saved more than 50% during last 2 years after moving to Neotel.

I'm also considering switching to Cell C. Does anyone know if they offer free SMSes from their website? (Similar to Vodacom and MTN)

I am not too fussed with buying th phone cash. Anybody know if there are definite timelines on the new contract pricing from Cell C?

They do. In fact, you can send 5 to any network daily. And your number is displayed correctly so replies work 100%. Just register on the Mytools page on their site.

Well worth it . ported back in march, save about 50% now on contract. but via redbull mobile. they got decent packages.

I am interested in it too. I have been with MTN since 1995. But I really believe that we are being ripped off with call charges. I also want the S III. But I don't know what Cell C will offer or when they will announce the new contracts. I know MTN have a few S III's so I need to decide soon.

But then again, the data charges Cell C is offering are waaay better. And the call rate at 99c to any number, per second, is far better than anything else anywhere. Hats off to Alan!!

@Cell_C - do you know when the Samsung Galaxy S III will be available? Once we have that info, I will be joining you on 22 June (or whenever the phone will be available.) Bye MTN - after 17 years!

@Cell_C - one more thing though - sending messages to the Cell C "Contact Us" page is an absolute waste of time. I have sent four messages, received replies saying that they would be answered in the next business day, but have heard nothing from Cell C at all. Is this the Customer Service I will have to look forward to??
