I have got a RAID0 array on a nvidia controller and I want to move this array to a SIL 3114 controller. If I move the hard drives is it going to work or am I going to lose all my data? Any ideas?

Generally, if you move from one controller to a different type/make of controller, the array needs to be re-initialised, which means yes, data toast

Hi there

Why not just backup the data on another HDD, build the raid again and then move the data back to the new setup?

Do what RPM has suggested for safety sake, but on top of that you can make an Image of the Drive to another hard drive and then take that image and restore it to the new controller.
You will soon see if Windows will accept the change or not on bootup.
It may be worth a try. I use Drive Image for this purpose.

Got rid of my Raid 0 a while back with this method on my old NF7-S Rev 2.0.
I think it is the same controller? 3114 that is?

Take two copies/backups before the transfer. You will look a real poephol if your single backup cannot be read. Been there etc....

Thanks I suppose I will have go the backup route. I just dont want to go through the whole shlep of reinstalling windows and having to get a floppy driver disk that works.

can u guys tell me what a good image maker would be

i couldnt norton ghost to work with my sata's drives

it would back them up but wouldnt restore it wouldnt get past the loading screen

I found the same thing with the later Ghost Versions, so I dumped them.
Switched to the old Drive Image(2002 I think it is?) which used to be a free utility with some Motherboards that were sold.
Search the internet for a link as it must be up for download on some site as it is an old program already.

Hope this helps. :)

Another good option to try is acronis true image. unfortunatly, the workstation version I have had issues with in a RAID setup, but the server version works wonders. Have restored RAID0 and RAID5 arrays on Intel, nVidia and SI controllers without problems.

moving an array from one controller to another shouldnt be a problem, done it plenty times, and no you wont have to re-initialise the array.. you wont even have to do a rebuild... just make sure to use the configuration set stored on the disks when the RAID bios complains about a mismatch.. or it might just ask you to import the config from the disks..

your biggest issue will probably be your OS drivers..
