moving to OUTsurance - pro's & cons

Wouldn't touch outsurance with a 10 foot poll. Heard the ad on 5fm about phone in and if we can't beat your current premium then we will pay you R200.

Needless to say I phoned in, they couldn't beat it, then they came up with some crap excuse on how they only starting that promotion the following month therefore I am not legible for the R200.

So my question is....if you advertise on a national radio, and then people phone in and you can't beat their quote then don't bull**** them around. I mean why the hell would I have phoned in....for the fun of wasting my airtime?

Outsurance need some real PR work done....will never recommend them after that, I mean if they making excuses for their own fault already, just imagine if you had an accident that was you fault....need I say more?

Cut a long story short....I didn't receive my money so dude DO NOT join them.

Do they still have bullcrap like "who drives the car" and if someone else then writes it off they refuse to pay out?

Even after writing off my previous car 8 years ago I still have better premiums at M&F than outsurance could ever give.

Outsurance are full of ****, have the worst premiums known to man... and then get confused when you laugh at them with their ridiculous premium offers...

Also, if someone threatens to leave and you can suddenly find a discount of R300+ on the premium.... then you can back date that premium discount to day one and pay out the amount you have been overcharging the person.

Interesting thread, thanks guys. Was thinking of changing insurance. Ended up making an appointment with my cousins broker on friday. Outsurance not one of his prefered choices ;)

They are by far the most expensive company to ever quote me.

I am with BMW insurance for R1100 p/m, they wanted to up my insurance with R500 so I shopped around and with that R200 money back thing that they going at the time I figured I'd give OUTsurance a call.

They quoted me R3500 for the same service, that is more than my installment on the car. I aksed the guy if he is serious and he told me that's a market related price. Fark me. Then some long BS story as to why I couldn't get the R200 rand either.

So Cons: Waaay overpriced and they catch people with that money back gimmick.

Try dialdirect instead, waaay cheaper and I had 0 issues when I was with them earlier. I could even insit on taking my old car directly to a BMW service centre instead of some approved centre.

I have used a broker for years, and totally prefer it, esp the admin that I save myself, with the last 2 claims.

I use a broker called Jano Prinsloo 08614297873

It amazes me to see how many people have issues with OUT - I have been with them since the purchase of my car in 2010 and have not had a single issue. And was quoted MUCH less than any other insurance company. I had contacted every single company I could find and the premiums were at least R300 cheaper, without me having to say "Company X can give me the same cover for so much...".

In October last year a girl skipped a stop and slammed the crap out of my car - called OUT and not even 20 minutes later the flatbed arrived. Repairs were done quickly and there were no issues - they even replaced my central locking/alarm as it had been damaged (somehow) in the accident - no questions asked. Even the excess recovery went well - it took a while, but there was a valid reason for it - no excuses at all.

Even my business insurance is through them, and have been quick to pay out on two claims there too.

Honestly, I have no intention of moving at all - even if another company now offered me a reduced premium, I would stay with OUT - purely based on the incredible level of service I have received

Have you ever claimed with them?

Yes, I have. On the 21st of last month when the rain was so hectic my car was badly water damaged. They said I could claim under Storm Damages.

They processed the claim ina flash & the next day when I noticed a burning smell coming from the car they instructed me not to drive it as it was a fire risk & they sent out a tow truck to fetch it for me. The vehicle was towed away & it was fixed with a few days.

Those guys that say OUTsurance is a lod of BS, please PM me contact details of those whom you think can give a better deal cos I really doubt it.

I won't even PM you the details....

KayserBaird Insurance Brokers : Tel: (031) 767 8000

They are my brokers, and I insure household and car with them for less than Outsurance quoted me.. and their service has been great when I've claimed.

Thanks dude, I will get a quote & post up the difference.

:)

Cool...

From memory, Outsurance quoted me just over R1800 on a 2004 Mercedes C200K with 85k on the clock, thats in a locked garage behind electric gates.
Santam charges me just under R1000 for the same car + Household contents of R150k + a few other sundries like personal liability insurance and such.

So, I was curious about the cost of insurance and that so I did some research (maybe I had too much time on my hands...)

Spoke to Dial Direct and also requested quotes through hippo.co.za - in the end spoke to Auto & General as well.

All the quotes received were a little bit lower than what OUTSurance had to offer and for a second or two I thought to myself that maybe my previous post was going to become invalid...

So I called OUTSurance and told them what quotes I had received and just said that they were better than what they had to offer - in no more than 10 minutes they had reassessed my profile and given me a deal that beat the quotes of all the other companies that I got quotes from. Overall saving of about R200 per month - waiting on the corporate insurance division of OUT to call me back as well, as they are hoping to get a reduction on my business policy as well.

Like they say. "You always get something out". Not bad for a mornings work I would say.

Slightly off topic - but are you happy with Santam? I have heard nothing but horror stories - friend's car was written off and they took nearly 3 months to settle because they felt that the accident could have been avoided, so feel he may have been drunk (which he wasn't - he hadn't had a drink that whole day). When our home was broken into they threw out the claim because there were no burglar bars on a window, that is not accessible without climbing about 40m (and bringing your own ladder)... Stupid things like that.

Did you contact a proper broker and deal with a real company (like the details of which I posted above)

or did you just use Dial Direct, and all the subsidiries of A&G that hippo presents.

Yes I am... because I know my policy...

If you policy has a requirement that all opening windows have burglar bars, then even the ones 40m up need it.. if they don't have it then you are in breach of your policy.

Dial Direct and A&G I contacted on my own. Requested a quote from Virgin, Budget, AA and I think I included Woolworths Financial in my Hippo search - Woolworths hasn't gotten back to me though. The estimate provided on the website was way out anyway though. Almost R1200 for a policy which was costing my about R700 at OUTSurance, before any reductions.

Fair enough - I actually don't know what the policy specified at that stage, I was still living at home then - so my mother handled the insurance policies etc.

I am almost sure though that there was an assessor that came out to evaluate the home before going ahead with the policy. But I really cannot be sure.

Let me give you a short point story of what Santam is about:

My car was stolen
I processed a claim
They send a private investigator out to see me

PI: Mr X, are there ANY marks on the vehicle that will allow you to identify your car?
Me: Why do you ask?
PI: In case we find it & it was resprayed etc, so we can tell if the car is yours.
Me: *like an idiot I think they are trying to help me* Yes, there is a small mark on the car which I can identify it
PI: What / where is it?
Me: On the left back wheel arch moulding is an indentation from when a trolley rolled into my car but its very small & almost unnoticable.
PI: No thats good, I will keep that in mind.

So I receive the notice from insurance to pay out but & see a -1% (damages)

So thinking they knew something I didn't I called them up & they told me that the -1% was for the damage I explained to the PI.

I lost it with the poor lady on the phone & I told her I am on my way to their offices immediately. She asked me why & I said I want to sit face to face with the idiot who is trying to rob me just after my car was stolen.

She put the phone down & called me back saying not to worry to come down cos they have removed the -1% I I will get the full market value of my car.

Hit a man when he is down???

So, immediately after they paid me out I took the money & cancelled my insurance with them straight away. I don't want anything to do with such a company ever again.

I've been with Outsurance for 2 years. Previously with AA Insurance. Outsurance quoted me less than any other company. Less than Santam, Miway, etc. Got my car, house contents, laptop, cellphone insured. My Galaxy Tab was damaged last year, screen cracked. They paid me out within 24 hours.

If they never came through that window it has no bearing on the loss and not relevant, either get a broker or change to a decent one.
