I'm looking to move my car and household insurance to OUTsurance.
At first glance, I stand to save R400 per month which is quite impressive.
They have matched my excess on the motor which is R1500 and for the contents R500.

what are the pro's & cons to moving to OUTsurance. (from M&F)

Outsurance quoted me R2400pm for one of my cars.
With FNB, both my cars and household contents come to less than that. With no excess.

Read the policy wording carefully.

Compare it with M&F and then make decision. Without the policy wording we cant say much.

I can't comment on anything else except for the service of outsurance.

Saturday night they tried to steal my mates car. It's fsked so he needed a tow truck etc. Phone outsurance at 10pm on saturday, they organised a tow truck which arrived in 30min and courtesy car was organised for monday. That is outstanding service.

Nothing special there.
I pranged a car on the N3 outside Ladysmith at 10pm on a friday night. Granted it took a while for the flatbed to get there, but it did. My hotel stay overnight was paid for, and a rental car organised from monday onwards. My only gripe was there wasn't a decent rental available to complete my trip down to durban at their rates, so I paid for that out of my pocket.

Don't be fooled.

Inferior product, use a broker and get the right cover at the right price.

My Santam policy was going to cost me R 1700 / month & when I called OUTsurance I got the same cover for R 1050. 12 months later when Santam would have done their annual increase, OUTsurance did theirs but at a fraction of what Santam charged.

Then the operator said to me "Mr ......... I see your policy is a year old, & you have not claimed, why don't we see if we can give you a better deal?"

So my premium only went up R 150 (annual increase) but then I got a R 400 discount on my policy. The service from the call centre is good, their approved repair centres do quality work & overall I am extremely happy, especially with the whole OUTbonus story.

Outsurance quoted R1600 for my car. Went to Auto & General for R640.

Same thing, they quoted me R1650 for my bike (worth R40k). Got cover with MiWay for R167. No jokes! 10% of what OUTripoff wanted to charge me.

Also, I got all my cover with MiWay online, without having to speak to anyone, which is quite amazing!

Outsurance quoted me R1800 for my car alone, thats more than double what I pay on the same car + household with Santam.

They're also a bunch of blatant liars.

I heard the add saying they'll beat my insurance quote or give me R200. So I phoned and provided them with my hollard quote, and exactly as I expected it was all a crock of ****. Wasn't going to argue over R200 so just put the phone down when the excuses started coming in.

Have you ever claimed with them?

When I've quoted with Outsurance, they've been among the most expensive. Nevertheless I insured my my house and one of my cars with them because I know enough people personally who had outsurance pay out when they had accidents even though they were negligent/drunk etc or had issues like low tyre tread levels. On the other hand I know of people who went with cheaper insurers and were left stranded when they had accidents due to minor issues that had no contributing factor to the accidents.

Sometimes when you pay more, you get more.

I was at Outsurance and they were charging me R924 per month and even after owning the vehicle for a year refused to reduce my premiums until I faxed them the cancellation forms.
Then all of a sudden they were willing to give me a R350 discount and begged me not to leave.

Out of principle I left Outsurance and am currently at Santam paying R502 per month.
I will never insure anything through Outsurance again. Bunch of thieving crooks.
