Hi guys,

I move on the 1st of December, do I contact Telkom about the move from the 1st, or can I do it prior to the move to request a line transfer / move.

Thanks.

You can tell them prior to your move and give them the date to install the line.

If you do a search on this forum, you will see that the general consensus is that it's far better and more efficient to cancel your existing line and then apply for a new line at your new house, rather than applying for a transfer. For some reason Telkom messes up line transfers on a regular basis. So better to just cancel everything, and then start from scratch at your new home.

If you're moving from one suburb to another then your line will work from a different exchange, so essentially your line will be cancelled and a new line will be provided, with a different number. Even if you request a "transfer" you will still receive a different number. So yes it is better to cancel your existing line and apply for a new line. Also remember that you need to give Telkom a month's notice, so if you cancel it only on the 1st of December then you will be paying for the month of December. And yes, Telkom always screws up transfers.

The way to do it is go to the telkom front office and arrange a fixed date transfer , that way they will transfer it on the day you request .just make sure u ask for a fixed date transfer and it will be allocated on the day you request

This way works best.

The way i have always done it (I've moved a lot) is cancel my line and re-apply for a new line. The fixed date transfer works best because then there is no waiting period, it's an immediate transfer of your line to your new premises.
