Mozilla Firefox 3

Although Internet Explorer is the only browser that has more users than Firefox does, Microsoft will never make IE open source, as it will allow too many security vulnerabilities. Firefox has improved security systems to combat this open-source design flaw, so although the browser is open source, you should have no problems with hackers or unnecessary pop-ups.

Sorry, but that is completely incorrect! Being open source leads to fewer security vulnerabilities(IE usually has more open exploits than FF at a given moment) and Microsoft cannot open source Internet Explorer as it is so finely integrated into windows that they would have trouble opening up the code for one and not the other.

have to agree. the big bonus of open source is that, security issues are recognised and then everyone has the necessary info to try and fix that. So they send their solutions upstream and they can be evaluated to fix the security issue.

While maybe releasing IE would initially lead to more security holes being exposed, those would be closed fairly quickly given to the vast number of people who would be looking for ways to close any exploits.
