Guy from Telkom told me that my line is upgraded to MSAN port (Moreleta Park exchange in Pretoria)

Is that mean that I can get 20/40 mbps per second or not?

It will depend on your distance from the MSAN itself. Anything from 8-40Mbps...
 
Sorry to derail but is the MSAN the white box and the Central office the big brick building?

You get a remote MSAN and a central office MSAN. The CO is the old exchange that has been replaced by an MSAN or three. The folks closest to the CO are serviced from there. As you move away from the CO there are remote MSANs that are linked by opric fibre cable back to the CO.

This is why 2.8km is a bit far...

Post your line stats (attenuation, noise margin, etc) and then we'll be able to tell you. But yes, if you were on 4mbps before being put on the MSAN, you are very likely to be able to achieve at least 20mbps, maybe even 40mbps.

The idea of the MSAN, is to put it much closer to the customer, so that the length of copper is shortened. That way the attenuation on the line is significantly decreased, meaning you should be able to sync at much higher speeds.

That's why I'm doubting the 2.8km ....
 
Jaa they fitting a whole lot in the exchanges at the moment , no external ones .
Chasing port numbers , end of financial year.
I agree with MickeyD , if you are 2.8 Ks from the exchange 4 or 6 more or less.

Im about 100m from the MSAN and about 8km from the exchange i get full 4meg 32db snr 7db att

Got a call from Telkom earlier the week, we can apparently finally connect to the MSAN which has been around the corner from our office for the past year. Happy days.

All we need now is ftth and we can get 1GB google fibre we summon you :P well they on 10GB now sigh ee delayed in everything
 
Ok this is from my router. I guess this does not look that bad.

MSAN port is in exchange and according Telkom guy is 2.8km
