MTI CEO goes missing as clients struggle to withdraw funds

How can anyone who read the “about us” or “overview” on their website not realize it’s a scam? Especially someone tech savvy enough to have BTC.

My dad bought bitcoin. The man who didn't ever have a cellphone because it's too complicated. BTC isn't some special thing limited to some elite club. Any donkey can get their hands on it.

So no real journalistic investigation then? Afraid of possible consequences? Just restating the lies that are continuing to be published by MTI? There is a thread (2nd one I think) on this very forum with almost 500 pages on. Sifting through it will find lots of pretty concrete evidence you couldve put to MTI??
To start, I'd like to point out that this article intersperses information from the FSCA's most recent statement to provide important context for readers who are following the MTI saga.

Secondly: You mean like all this journalistic investigation that was done in the reporting prior to this one article you decided to pan for some reason?

And the possible consequences that can come from running the above articles (including this one that you're criticising)?

Way to twist my words. All I was trying to explain is that there are real consequences for playing it fast and loose with terms like "ponzi", "fraud", or even "pyramid scheme" when you don't have the luxury of anonymity. We can't violate the law or press code by declaring something a ponzi scheme when a court hasn't done so.

In fact, I can't help but question your motives in trying to goad me to say it because this is exactly the kind of trick people involved with MTI have used to try and trap me before.

So every time I watch investigative shows like carte blanche, they are "playing it fast and loose" when they confront scammers and call them that despite a court not having found them guilty?

And LMAO, trying to insinuate I am in any way involved with MTI simply because I questioned your "reporting".

Carte Blanche has MultiChoice behind them to foot the legal bills. Next time you chat to a Carte Blanche journalist, ask them how many pending court cases they're dealing with.

I was casting aspersions for dramatic effect. I was really trying to get you to understand that I can't even risk calling MTI a ponzi in this thread because it will be used as ammunition.

I'll ask Derek the next time I see him.

Why bother with journalism then if you are so afraid of being taken on? And why publish MTI's statement without so much as a question from you from the almost 500 page thread with legit evidence that something is amiss??? This is why I made the statement earlier regarding the quality of your articles. Look at the twaddle about Rain. You publish the CEO's propaganda without so much as a question of the numerous complaints their service is obviously oversold and how he can make claims about being ready for holiday traffic.

You are clearly cherry-picking, as I have already argued above.

It's the actual laws of South Africa and the press code that say we can't just declare something a ponzi scheme.

This very article included the FSCA's statements in balance to MTI's.

Not sure which Rain piece you're talking about, but we've also published stacks of articles this year about the poor performance and service people were getting.

I fear this discussion is no longer productive, and I must to bed. Have a good night.

Jan definitely could have asked some insightful questions, stepped it way to safe, no meat.

Those threads are goldmines and there was plenty info that was publically posted by MTI and Co for Jan to make a total mockery out of them and not expose himself to any liability. Just by stringing it all together, it would have been good reading.

I feel a little sad that despite all that dedicated work to capture it all in the forum threads and posted in his own forum he hasn't taken full advantage of it yet.

Jan make us proud!
Or don't I suppose, post another Rain(or insert other sketchy internet service provider) advertorial

Then again I do understand the risk but I still see a missed opportunity going by.

MTI also stated that Johann Steynberg is currently in Brazil, and that he bought a return ticket to São Paulo via Doha with his return flight scheduled for 22 December 2020.
At what point did Steynberg (allegedly) fly to Brazil (with SA as his starting point?), isn't Brazil a no go zone due to COVID-19?

I'm still not clear on what's going on there: was his destination São Paulo with a stopover in Doha, and he was due to return to SA on the 22nd?

Whatever his travels plans were, how dare he be allowed to travel anywhere, report Steynberg to NDZ for breaking her disastrous regulations, have him arrested at the airport international arrivals terminal, preferably whilst he is still on the plane, also check to see if he has been sharing his saliva with anyone (that's a serious violation of the NDZ rules and regulations).

Quarantine his arse for about 50 years.

His flight would fall under essential travel. :)

Your take on this is completely misguided. A media organization must abide by rules and function within the current legal framework. What you are asking is that we function outside of these rules based on what we think is true. Not good.
