I am in Bloemfontein. Closest tower is at Northridge mall, (old noordstad) about 400m from me.

If you can tell me how , I can try and find tower id.

The tower/cell ID should show up on your phone below "MTN". If it doesn't have a look through the settings and try and find network settings or similar and then activate "cell info display" or "cell broadcast", whatever its called.

E Cape.

thanks , no joy. I have also been driving around in Bloem , and was unable to connect. Even on sites with GPRS only.

I am now back online , only with the help of a VODACOM PREPAID sim card at R2.00/meg !!!!!!!!

continously getting the bloody " PPP control protocol terminated" thingy.

any body else with advise?

If you have to use Vodacom at least get a PPDB so its cheaper. Maybe the 500MB one @ R189?

I have been very out of touch.

how do I go about doing that ?

can you help ?

I'll find the link somewhere, hold on.

Edit:

Its all explained here:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=1086462&postcount=5

I find the *111# method the easiest and best, just go through the menu options. Basically you load the amount of airtime you need to buy the bundle on a prepaid sim then using one of those methods you buy a bundle using that airtime. Its then valid for 30 days from the date of purchase.

500mb data bundle loaded. thank for the advice.

It is still a pain in the ass though as i now need to swap sims between my MTN - card (phone calls and business nr) and my VODA card (data) all the time.

I really hope that MTN can solve my problem soon.

They promised for a coverage tech to contact me , but up to now I heard nothing.

Don't you have an old phone you can use for your MTN sim? Still a hassle but easier than swopping the whole time.

This probably means you have a specific problem with your phone settings, APN settings or provisioning. Try reloading it all with *123#

Insider,

My wife was also not able to connect to MTN for the past few days.

I have however been able to connect as of this morning with no hassles. Whatever the problem was, I am sure that it was network related. But it looks like it is sorted out now.

Would be nice if somenone can figure it out and report back though.

Thank you to all who were willing to try and help me.

PS: i am typing this using my MTN connection.

I do however now have 500mb of data on VM simcard. I do find my MTN connection to be faster than the VM one though using the same PC and phone with just the simcards swopped.
