In October last year I changed over to MTN because their 3G service in my rural area was the only really workable one around (we don't have landlines, the cables were stolen 6 years ago).

So I bought a new 602 modem to go along with my I3 desktop Haswell Core I3 etc with Windows 8 , bliss, system worked beautifully.

Then I updated to Windows 10 and the system was just fine for a few weeks but started playing up, eventually I couldn't connect at all only a green or red light on the modem, so I took it back to the MTN shop where I bought it.

Horrors, they had no means to test it and told me it had to be sent into the repair division in Durban which would take about 3 weeks, I explained I would lose quite a lot of prepaid data which didn't seem to bother the MTN saleslady at all.

So in desperation I bought another 602 modem but after 2 weeks of good service that modem packed up just like the original. I took them to the MTN shop where after nearly 2 hours of standing around and talking to the consultant I was told the 602 isn't compatible with Windows 10, a fact(?) which doesn't appear anywhere in MTN literature or in the 602 operating manual.

The consultant suggested I upgrade to the next modem. So let's look at the costs, I paid R600 for the modems and lost R500 worth of prepaid data, in addition the new modem is R799. I emailed MTN and have only had an acknowledgment of receipt of the email nothing else.

Not good enough MTN!

To be fair, if the manuals and things were produced before Windows 10 came out, how would they know it would be incompatible?

Before upgrading your operating system, it is your responsibility to check that the upgrade will be compatible with your existing hardware and software.

Thank you Ginggs, spot on reply.

I had to roll back my windows version to be able to use some of my programs again, Microsoft are really not winning any awards with this new OS

Absolutely extraordinary! As you must know full well Windows 10 IS A VERY COMMON and popular updated operating system. it is not MY or any other users responsibility to make sure the modem sold by MTN and ADVERTISED as Windows compatible is just that, its MTN's job to do that and to compound the problem the fact I lost my prepaid data doesn't seem to faze MTN in the slightest, AND the emails I sent to MTN still, some weeks later, have not been followed up on. Additionally the second modem I bought was in Feb THIS year, Windows 10 has been available for over 8 months, ample time to ascertain and inform clients about compatibility problems, AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I see from another thread that another person has had problems with the 602 modem and a TPlink MR3420 router just like me, my previous Huawei modem worked PERFECTLY with the router.
