MTN Allowing WiFi Calling

I see that WiFi calling can not be used when travelling abroad. Only available for use in SA. However Cell C does allow this therefore making it possible to roam at local SA rates when on a WiFi network.
Typical MTN
Yip, all other networks allow it except for MTN.

We need a campaign on Twitter to get them to implement this feature. It's weak sauce at all other voice networks have implemented this already

Feedback from MTN on Twitter:
Hi, please note we are waiting for the launch date from the Marketing team. #WatchTheSpace

I tried MTN for a while again. The speeds were amazing, signal better than CellC and Vodacom at that time, but there incessant spamming with CB (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_Broadcast) made me angry enough to leave again. Those things take over the whole iphone screen until you select an action and it will do so in the middle of something important.

If MTN does Wifi calling properly, I might even be willing to live with that though. Vodacom only does this weird if-we-feel-signal-is-weak thing - Wifi calling is there, but I have not yet seen it get used. Guess my 1 bar 4G is still good enough for them to avoid turning on Wifi calling.

I just turned it off

I just turned it off
I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off on an iphone. If it’s possible, please do tell.

I got a secondary prepaid SIM today for some hotspot usage now and then and wow, 100Mbps vs 5Mbps on my Vodacom SIM.

I'm an android user unfortunately :) if I had quick access to an iPhone I'd take a look for you

MTN's network is far superior to Vodacom. I've been on Vodacom, then Cell C, then 10 years ago I went to MTN and have never looked back. The Afrihost APN is very useful as well.

Only thing I'd wish they'd do is re-enable Wi-Fi calling.

EDIT: I've also used Telkom (back when they were 8ta) and also enjoyed their speeds

@rpm Could you please ask MTN when they launching WiFi calling on iOS devices? Every time we query this, the response is that it will come soon. It’s currently available for android but not iOS

I'm on an iPhone as well and turned everything off, you can follow the steps below:

If you download the MTN app there is two more places where you can turn ussd spamming off, select settings and then tap on the “legal” option.

Can't find the "legal" option in the current app. All my other things were already opted out and listing as "No". I still get a USSD popup every few days though. I mean, MTN, why all this junk in the first place? Just don't spam your own customers then they won't have to opt out of so much junk all the time. Also, POPI not going to help here?

MTN still asleep at the wheel here when it comes to enabling iPhone for WiFi calling?

It's not even easy to get 135 to enable it on a sim. My main prepaid sim doesn't have VoLTE or VoWifi enabled. My second prepaid sim have both enabled and both simcards was used in the same devices no other devices involved.

Oh yes WiFi calling forgot about that..

*checks*

Still nope.. wait how many years has it been.. feels like this and eSim are in a not happening cycle for years. I wonder if it will ever be supported as they both have revenue impact.

Well at least the banks brought it Apple Pay.. I see someone mentions enabled on sim? Goes to website to check it

I reckon they're making more money without these options so they stalling with excuses to earn more zillions.
There's absolutely no reason it can't be done by now, other networks around the world have had it for years even in countries with far less infrastructure than ours.

Surely WIFI calling saves them money, you not using their spectrum but they still charge you the normal rate

If they worried about roaming revenue then they can only allow domestic wifi calling like some of the UK providers do

And all of a sardine it's suddenly back and working on my phone :D

So... Is it available for ANY android device or just Huawei and Samsung?

So how do you actually enable it on a MTn prepaid simcard?

I have 1 simcard that has it enabled and the other one doesn't.

I would love the option to make wifi calls and receive wifi calls.

Vodacom service in our area is terrible. You cant call me on my phone. They are unusable. Yet our local wifi provider provides a high quality connection to the internet. Most people these days have to phone me on whatsapp instead of the normal line because of this.
