So, I take out a new MTN contract and get a new number, I've had it going on a month or so - now, if this was a recycled number, don't you think I would be getting SMS's from people? I'm not talking 1 person, I'm talking randoms - couple of places at least.

I ask because I got a new Vodacom number last year and it was a recycled number, I get SMS's from so many places and phone calls etc etc so obviously, it's a recycled number.

Well no!

I'm ONLY getting SMS's from the ANC to vote for them.

This number is on my tablet, I don't use the number for anything - haven't given it to anyone, hell, I don't even know it.

Now how did the ANC get this number... the only person who knows this number is MTN and the consultant whom helped me take out the contract at the MTN store.

I'm curious now - what can I do about this, because this is unacceptable - what else is MTN giving them or others?

Just vote anc and it will go away :erm:

I have many MTN contacts and never had a peep from the ANC. The DA on the other hand have called me a few times, not sure how they got my number exactly. Probably a recycled number.

I got a brand new tablet on MTN contract a few months ago. Never used it to call or sms and the other day I got a "Please call bigcock". I lolled.

Get used to it. All the political parties seem to be getting in on the SMS action. They've learned from private companies. Block the number or opt out (hahahaha, like opt out will work) perhaps?

Is it consistently from the same number?

Sorry man - being an the ANC sms list is like having a vd.

That being said...I saw a minor surge in unwanted SMS on porting too (MTN > VC port). Not cool...but at least VC's network works so I'm much more inclined to forgive.

It doesn't even matter these days...2AM the other night...fax coming in on my voice only telkom line and the ringer tone on that thing is enough to wake me.

MTN in bed with Telkom - a Government (ANC) entity...? #justsaying

Went out to RICA a few SIM CARDS the other day, come 1st/2nd May 2014, receive SMSes from Attorneys(coincidence) on different numbers upon doing investigation on the SENDERS NUMBER it is legit. I am now concerned that they will contact me, demanding money etc. For now I won't be handing that number out to relative yet. Probation for 3 months if they harass me I will be discarding that number immediately and asking for a new number.

Getting a recycled number is one of theeeee worst flippin irritations ever. I still apparently owe SABC 3000 rand for tv licence, and i have a hospital bill even though ive not been to hospital lol. Its annoying

eventually most companies are linked in some way or another to political parties whether we like it or we don't///
