MTN Black Friday Discussions

OK cancellations confirmed that the cancellation is no longer just 1 month notice. So this seems to be the new rule?

My terms and conditions said "subject to an early termination penalty fee" but I asked and she said it isn't just one month -- it could mean the remaining months minus some discount.

I ended up upgrading two contracts to the same deal (Made for me XS, 500MB anytime, 500 nighttime, 50GB bonus anytime every month, 50 mins, 50 SMS) but one on 24 months (@R269 a month) and one on 36 months (R199 a month) to "hedge my bets".

Just for those in the same situation as me:
  • Been on MTN Black Friday contract since 2016.
  • My latest one (R299 for 30GB+30GB anytime) expired yesterday as per SMS received from MTN.
I phoned 135 (upgrades) this morning just after 08:00. I waited for about 15 mins before a consultant. The consultant that answered was very helpful. She didn't even say anything about the fact that my contract had already expired. I asked for similar options to what I'm currently on, and she immediately pointed out a 50GB+50GB anytime deal (no minutes or SMSs, I don't need any) for R299.

I told her that according to the code I have, it's supposed to be 150GB anytime data, and not 100GB. This is according to what was posted in this thread:
R299 - 150gb anytime data of which 75gb is shareable, 150gb night owl of which 75gb is shareable Product Code: 2020991 CT 00015 BF

She asked for the code, which I read to her. She said that that code is for 50GB+50GB anytime, not 75GB+75GB. In either case, I decided to take it (it's more data than I'll use, and it's more data for the same price).

My new contract is already active. The entire conversation lasted about 10 minutes (this includes an address change).

EDIT: My new contract is for 36 months, which I'm fine with.

I think there's a deal for R199 which has 50gigs and 50 minutes.

This is 1 of the deals for new clients...
Not sure of your needs but I'm getting this as a failover for fibre at home & for when out the house & kids need
internet access on tablets.

Upgraded to

550mins any network
15.5gb anytime data
500mb night data
50 smses
R149 x36m

Spoke to
Neo Masilo

Looking into this. I'm getting the minutes, but only 50 are all-network, and now there's some restrictions on the data too.

Guys, is the 500GB+500GB for R499 for business or consumer packages only?
I got through to 135 retentions only to me met by this rude consultant who told me this there is no such package and that I am on a business package and even if there was such a contract I would not qualify because it sounds like a consumer only package.
I dont understand why some consultants are so rude, I was nice :)

Interesting. I read that exact code and she said it's 50GB+50GB anytime (and 50GB+50GB night) data. It might be specific per customer.

Either case I'm happy with 100GB anytime data per month (it's more than I had for the same price), I barely use 10GB since I'm on wifi most of the time. My mobile data is more of a failover for my fibre.

With regards to cancellations, this is what my contract says (as received after my upgrade this morning).

Screenshot from 2020-11-23 11-47-24.png

The "an additional one month's subscription" tells me that I can terminate early by paying a one month penalty (and any other admin fees, and any outstanding balances up to the point of termination).

happy camper
[email protected] helped me twice within 3 hours of dropping him an email (called me back, so leave a contactable number on your email)
R199 with 60GB anytime + 60GB night data i believe
R79 with 10GB data and 150 minutes

(intend to share from primary to secondary, as +-30GB is more than enough for both sim's , so the additional GB's will serve as a good buffer)
