MTN Black Friday Discussions

I noticed recently in the MTN app you can now view the data useage per datashared sim and also set useage limits per sim. Has anyone noticed if the useage stats are accurate and whether the limit kicks in promptly once reached?
The app says I have used about 5gbs for Snapchat. I don't have Snapchat installed...

Also got messages that my one contract is upgradable. At the time 2 years ago I got 1 contract on the 50GB + 100mins over 2 years, and the other 50GB + 100mins over 3 years. Pity now that I didn't do both 3 years :(

You can share inclusive data, the agent is talking kak....36 months is a long time, but doesn't bug me in the least, it is a good deal, would take a year or so before we might see something like MTN choice 200gig or more, needed to upgrade in the next two months anyways.....so either take this, hope it's still available in two months, or take a shittier deal....
What I did today was, to downgrade my other contract to MTN mychoice zero, they keep the sim active, till such time you want to upgrade, will datashare on that, or far as I am aware data share is already active.
Can you check how much are you able to data share per month? 50gb or 150gb?

Those who got the 150gb +150gb for R299/month which is mtnmy choice 50gb (with 100gb promo/month) how much were you able to data share?

Normal anytime data is shareable. The only thing I discovered you can't share data with another contract number. If you go to the MTN app it will tell you exactly how much data is sharable it will also allow you to share a specific amount of data, from a drop down list.

FYI I am still extremely happy with this package I have not run out of data, and some months I am still within the promotional portion of the data. There has only been 1 month where I went overboard and had like 10gig left. I barely use night express data these days and mostly set updates and steam to do their thing after midnight, but I think it is mostly because I got this just before the start of winter, in summer generally stay up later.

Thanks, sorry just confirming, does the normal anytime data means the full 150gb or only non promo?

Only the contracts default base anytime data as far as I understand it and you should be able to add a contract number to the datashare but it seems it depends on the contract type not all can be added.

I think you are mistaken.

I am able to share my data to another contract number.

You cannot datashare to a number that is already on datashare(host or additional)

Nope I can't share with my contract number. This is the exception rather than the rule I think. When I went with the 150/150 deal, both my contracts were up for renewal, the one I tried to share data with I downgraded to MTN zero, essentially month to month contract with ZERO charges that can be upgraded at anytime you need or want to. When I tried to share data I got a big fat error. Basically saying you can't share data with this contract number. There might be other exceptions too.

Thanks for the MTN ZERO tip.
Will definitely come in handy.

So one month left until most of our BF contract specials from two years finally expire? Any ideas (or maybe a wishlist? ) of what we think the BF specials would be this year? I don't know what was last year's so have no means of comparison.

My current one is a 50mins (550 bonus), 1GB (15GB Bonus), 50 SMS package for R209. Happy to pay the same amount to keep it. In fact, maybe a bit cheaper contract with about maybe 5-7GB of data because I have struggled to use the 15GB every month

Sorry it's called MTN mychoice zero. They don't advertise it at all, so you have to ask for it as a upgrade/downgrade option, but it keeps your sim active, indefinitely. Actually a really cool feature. I currently can't afford another sim at the moment so it is perfect for me

Most of the BF deals from two years ago were 36month contracts, Please check your T's and C's.
Mines was two years. Was offered three. They have been pestering my wife and me telephonically over the last few months to get a new contract.

Can anyone maybe tell me if the following online exclusive upgrade offer is worth it:
My MtnChoice 80GB
120 GB anytime & 120 GB Night
R349pm x 36 months.

Is it worth it or must I rather wait and see what Black Friday may offer?

I reckon you’d do better on BF, if I remember correctly last year for R350pm you’d get around 200gb anytime data.
