MTN Black Friday Discussions

Sorry guys, had a hectic afternoon, only logged back on here this morning.

I opted for these :
083....... to the 400gb Package with 100gb Shareable at R399pm; ( I think this is a business deal) not through retentions.
083....... to the R279pm Made for Business Data+ XXL 150gb, with 50gb Shareable please?
Was told these are available till 7 December.

edit, found the deal code: MTN Made for Business Data+ pro 400GB

Eish for 36 months but then I suppose less of this upgrade BS.
What do you need to be able to move a consumer contract to a business contract?

But then the drawback with the business deals is all datashare sims must be contracts, we can't win this BF 😞

The previous Contract I had with them (400+400 plus 200 +200) was also 36 months and glad it was. Can't see them getting much better, seeing as they have become worse over the years.
Worste case, if there is an awesome deal next year, or the next, to upgrade a sim only deal, you pay one months' subscription penalty (or so im told).

Not sure what is needed, but luckily for me, all the data I'm sharing are to Contract sims (my family).

Yeah that 400gb @ 399 is a nice one, but you gotta sign up the prepaid sims to link datashare

Been a sad BF for consumer data packages.

Do what I did with my mom and son.
"MTN Made for Business value 65" R65pm on a month to month contract, they get R65 Airtime and 1gb Data.
Then I share the data from the other contract to them.

Has anyone here managed to upgrade on MTN recently without changing their billing from "cash"/card payments to debit order?

Update: Sorted just in time.

All 7 prepaid lines have been migrated to our business account on that number for life plan as detailed above and in the nick of time too, because all 7 sims were delinked from our 2 main datashare sims yesterday. I was able to add them again this morning via the new MTN App so all sorted and at least I won't have to load R2 airtime and send a sms every 80 days on each sim to keep them alive now.

One annoyance of the process was having to remove each sim card and write down the sim card number onto the application form, but I got it done.

I'm contemplating this deal: MTN Made for Business Data+ pro 400GB @ R399 x 36
and linking sims as per
Business Access Mobile (Known internally as Number for Life)
Price Per Month: R6.15incl vat
Deal ID: 202501BAM001

After signing up those 7 prepaid SIMs of yours, what is the nature of those SIMs?
Do they behave as prepaid SIMs or contract SIMs? Do you load airtime and buy voice bundles like you do on prepaid, or do they become contract SIMs?

Contract sims with spend limit but you can add prepaid airtime to them for calls and sms usage.

Just check how much of the 400GB can be shared - high chance only 100-150GB of the 400GB.

It's 150GB or 100GB. There are no packages that allow you to share more than that, not even on the Consumer side.
And the best I've seen on new consumer contracts is 200GB @ R419

Yeah, thought so. I went for the R299 for 100GB shareable. Definitely would have gone for the 400GB @ R399pm x36 if 200-300GB was shareable. Clearly MTN got tired of people taking out big GB deals and then selling the data via datashare - the gold old days are not officially gone. I just hope they never kill datashare off completely.

But now that I think about it, with their new business rule that datashare can only go to contract sims, why not step it up a notch and force people to register those sims at sign up with a limited number of changes over the duration of the contract? Example: you upgrade to the 400GB deal and all is shareable but you must supply the contract cell numbers as part of the upgrade to have datashare work so they are linked to your upgrade number and you can only make a handful of changes over the contract duration - this would then stop selling of datashare in my opinion. Too much PT for MTN though I suppose.

UPDATE ON DATA ROLLOVER - MTN BUSINESS LINES:

So while MTN has stopped business minutes and sms's rolling over to the next month, I can confirm that last month's data rolled over to this month (my monthly renewable date is the 6th). On my recently upgraded 100GB lines, I have just short of 200GB fully shareable.

When you upgrade a data contract how do they work out the pro-rata bill and data allocation?

Cost and bundle allocation... multiplied by the number of days remaining in the billing cycle divided by total number of days in the billing cycle.

LAST DAY FOR THIS IS TODAY GENTS

I was on a Month to month deal of 400gb for R499, I see now that I only received 200gb this month same bill

The below packages seem to be the main SIM Only deals from Retentions this year for individuals ie non-business contacts.

Didn't ask about Sky, but at least some of those are listed in the brochure.

They're all called the Yellow Essential Plan, and don't each have individual names, just differentiate them by their price, minutes and data allocation.

10GB + 75min @ R129
20GB + 75 min @ R149
15GB + 525 min @ R219
50GB + 125 min @ R279

All 24 months.

Wasn't told when these offers are available until.
When do these deals expire? I want to port my wife's number over to MTN from Vodacom for one of these.
These are not BF deals supposedly. have been available for a while. Will see if that changes tomorrow

These Yellow Essential Plan packages are still available from the Retentions team today. No mention of when they'll stop offering them.

Just the same old tired retention deal they've had for months
250GB R389 x 12 months and only 70GB can be Datashared :coffee:
Did anyone else take this retentions deal.
How much data exactly can you datashare?

I took that deal and I am getting an extra 30GB promo data for some reason but when I phoned MTN the lady said only half the base 100GB data can be datashared but MTN's own T&C's say all the base data can be shared and they originally said 70GB.

It’s almost definitely 70GB, thank goodness, it’s always only the base data that can be shared vis Datashare and that retention's deal is based on the Internet Ruby contract which is 70GB of base data.
