MTN Black Friday Discussions

Trying to figure out if my data allocation on Mobile Internet Gold has increased or if it's just carry-over.

It used to be 15 GB (shareable) + 15 GB promo.
Now this morning I've got 30 GB (shareable) + 15 GB promo.
Price change: R149 pm (old) -> R169 pm (new)
I had 17 GB shareable remaining yesterday, but the app showed expiry to be 1 Feb.

Curious to know if anybody else has gotten an increased data allocation. Else any insights into how carry-over works?

Its probably carry over data. I'm on Ruby (70gb shareable) and I carried over 40gb, so total shareable data is 110gb. The shareable data carries over, the promo data does not

So for all those who were billed out of BF special rates before 36/24 months? Go get 'em....
MTN kept looping me between billing and customer service. So I opened an ICASA compliant that the 36 Month contract was cut short by MTN by 25 Days and they billed me the full exorbitant rate.
Also, they double billed me when they billed me for the old Contract and upgrade in Dec '25 /Jan '26.

My Reply to them. Think they will take it seriously? Reply to MTN.jpg

MTN is a big corporate, they DGAF. Congrats on the win though.
Thanks!

I wonder if MyBB can make an article about this and get them to stop this practice once and for all.

Well I shared my win, so others would try to at least lay complaints. If enough people do it, and not only with MTN, any other corporate, they might just stop their Bullying tacticts.
I was initially tempted to tell them to pay interest also on that, cos it's been 3 x months, but yeah, that's never gonna happen.

!! Well done @Bunta !!

@Jan please create an article. This should be made known widely.

I see for example my 12 month BF contract I signed on 25 November has the end date of 31 October 2026*, some 3 weeks before 12 months. So potentially I am also going to have to fight this too.

* MTN App -> Account -> Plans. See "Plan expires"

MMM, something aint right. I just received ICASA's response...

" Please advise if you accept the complaint resolution, alternatively please provide reasons with reference to the relevant resolutions why the complaint cannot be closed.

Please respond to this communication within 5 working days should we not receive any feedback the complaint resolution will be accepted and the complaint closed."

Why would MTN tell me they refunding me Nov and December invoices, but tell ICASA that only refunding a portion of December?
Afraid ICASA will fine them? or hold them fully accountable?
IDGAF, I sent MTN's original reply to me, to ICASA and pointed out the differences in their replies to me vs to icasa.
Gonna ride this out. Tired of greedy corporates.

Any update on this @Bunta?

I tried changing my contract payment method today from debit order to cash and I was told no longer possible, along with the response below.
Has anyone else experienced this recently?

"Please be advised that, as per the new business rules, MTN no longer permits changes to the payment method from Debit Order to Cash. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. "

Similar roadblock when attempting to upgrade a contract in November that had been on "cash" payments for years - they forced a change to debit order before allowing the upgrade application to be processed.

At least one of the agents involved said that after 3 months, it could be changed back to cash payments instead.. that sounded weird at the time and now your experience is reaffirming that suspicion.

Out of interest:
Have you been on debit order for longer than 3 months?
Has the current contract term had 3+ months elapsed?

I was that same, previously on cash payment for many years and I upgraded in December sometime and they also said after 3 months I can revert to cash, which is why I called now. Maybe I'm not actually at 3 months yet or it's 3 billing runs but then why did they not say that?

That being said they support Pay@ payments so perhaps we can use Pay@ to pay "cash" before each billing run?

I checked my MTN Pay@ bill now and it shows the current bill can be paid that will normally run as a debit order on the 15th.
If I pay that now will the debit order still run?

Both the 3rd billing cycle and not-3-months-yet possibilities seem like plausible reasons.
Perhaps check again after those have passed after this billing cycle - interested to hear how it goes for you.

The agent in November did mention that the MTN account could be pre-funded to avoid the debit order firing off, assuming the pre-funded balance equals/exceeds the bill payment due on the date of debit order. Assuming the same if the bill has already been paid specifically. Haven't tested that.

I paid my bill now with Pay@, it reflected immediately in the MTN app and they sent me an email confirming it.
That's good enough for me, I just wanted to be able to pay my bill with the credit card.

No reply from either icasa nor mtn yet.
But most recent mtn statement shows the credits of R34xx, so the net balance is -R1614.
Nice, now that the credit is in the bank you can go all guns firing
Why pay cash? This ain't the 1990s.

Or tax evasion?
Stop projecting bru. It’s not actual cash, it just means manual account payment.
I like paying it using the credit card so I can potentially earn eBucks on the payment/eBucks level points.

This is exactly what I do, generally if you do it at least a week before the debit order date then the debit order wont run, any later and you risk it going off and sitting with the credit for the next month.
