Around about the time mine was loaded, why not do it at the as midnight strikes.

I will make a note not to totally flatten my data in future if I need data right after midnight.

I know in the past a new 50gb has loaded at midnight. Last night my data was dead till I last checked at 2am, Mtn portal also showed nothing remaining.

Yes as I also noted it happens in installments but I have to confess this was by far the BEST contract I have ever had and the peace of mind of not worrying about using my smart phone is precious

So guys, with the Huawei P10/P10 Plus along with the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ dropping on our shores, i would've expected to see MTN to drop a campaign to get people to take these devices with 50GB data. What is the story then now? Nobody hear anything yet .

FYi, not for me, merely asking for those who missed out :)

/can't afford a contract at this point in time.

+1.I only use about 10gb per month maximum but just knowing it's there and you can use your phone as you please makes a huge difference.

They won't be having it again, the idea was to give people freedom with their smart phone usage and they were hoping most people would use less than 50GB per month however most people are using all 50gb so it's not practical for them to offer more of these.

This is what I heard from somebody "in the know".

@falcon786 - thanks for the info. If they do their costing right, am sure they would see how it is bringing in so many new customers, they losing out big time [on customers] :D.

Ya, guess hoping they would give something big on the new launches was fruitless at best :o. Guy can dream eh.

After being in the mobile data market for more than 10 years. Im always up to date with current markets. I have 14 x of these contracts with MTN.
CellC is a great alternative of data only for high end data
And if covered by Telkom LTE, the uncapped package of course.
Afrihost were always a great first choice for low end data

PS - MTN will have this again becuase of it being 2 year contracts they have to see how it plays out. Data usage on them will significantly drop on most of them cause the average use is below 30GB on them.
The reason they will have this again one day is to once again clear stock.
It was created for that reason in the first place.

Then why was it offered on a SIM only package? Or did they want to clear sim card stock?

It was planned to launch like that but MTN consultants were informed to propose a device with it.
Most MTN branches I contacted had the idea that it must include a device. Although it was only with Cyber monday and later promotions that the device was mandatory

I took the deal on Cyber Monday, nobody suggested I had to take a device. I think that happened after Cyber Monday.

What I understood was they wanted to create a hype with a Black Friday deal but still had open slots which they used as cyber Monday deal then later to clear old phones. Now they have none of this left so no such promotion in near future

Yes. But what youre saying is that they will never have to clear old phones again?
Wait for the next black friday 2018

I'm not saying they don't have old phones to clear but the promo won't be exclusively used to clear old phones. They will rather give a discount on old hardware.

I reckon Mtn was in a bit of a financial hole, probably after that Nigerian fine fiasco and needed a rapid influx of subscribers and cash flow and they needed a big carrot to be guaranteed to achieve that.
