MTN Black Friday Discussions

At least you've been contacted... ordered on Monday...approved on Tuesday...courier will contact you...nothing...been told it will be in next week.
Someone called me today to confirm address. Got an SMS right after the call for delivery on Tuesday.

Got a call today from the couriers about my sim delivery, scheduled for Tuesday.

Forgot to check this but it seems these contracts didn't get that hidden +-R300 sim connection/delivery/Admin fee most new contracts get charged?

Maybe that's why people are seeing R450 first month bills for R150/pm contract?

They never mentioned a connection fee during the telephone call. Can anyone confirm

2.78 days. That .78 should be around 18 hours.

Any luck Nadir?

I think they would have to, they always jump it on you just at the last moment, they've done all the paper work and it's to late by then so they got yoy, but I did not get informed of any connection fee.

What you should be charged is this months pro rata and next months R 149. That's how Mtn always bills. Your first bill is the highest thereafter you pay normal. When I phoned to query the bill, they didn't mention the fee. They just said discounts haven't been applied but you will be charged pro rata + next month together.

No shaping with torrents?

I suggest you go read up on the MTN uncapped thread. I have a strange feeling they can and will shape torrents on these packages.
on the other hand, 50GB isnt that much data ( and the faster you use it the more they can get you to pay out of bundle)

luckily i limited both contracts to only allow R30 out of bundle

Will have a look.

I told them to cap my account once the data is used so there's no need to worry about OOB.

I doubt I'll get through the full 50GB in a month anyway as I'm on WiFi/ADSL most of the time. Would be great if torrents aren't shaped for those 'cannot wait, must watch now!' episodes.

SIM scheduled for delivery today.

Do I need to phone the activation number from the actual SIM or can I phone from any phone?

Not keen on having to struggle SIMs in and out of my phone. Will be used only for the data in a Mobile 3G WiFi Router.

I phoned for activation from a prepaid MTN phone and had to give her the new sim serial number and pin - now I must wait 2 hours :)

Does anyone know if I can port another number to at a later stadium in the contract? Or should I do it immediately.

It is possible, but you have to go through back office and jump through hoops. Better to do it now

Wondering how a 149 contract is showing a bill of R460

I phoned MTN and got them to send a request to correct the bill. They said I should be charged R 149 pro rata'd

Jip, they have a billing issue. They are charging R249 for the R149 contract.

There is a connection fee of R99 (you will always pay that when you sign up at any network, unless it is discounted explicitly).

I also want to mention... their prorated calculation does not look correct. I calculated that they should have prorated about 33% but they Prorated more like 48%. But at least you get the 48% value. You just don't have a lot of days... maybe like 4 to 7 days to make use of the value.

Oh, just like me, you are out of luck... I didn't want to complicate the signup so just opted for another SIM, now a regretting it. MTN is probably the only network that explicitly does not do this! You have to port on activation.

This was such a surprise to me, since I'm a Cell C user for years, and I also had a Virgin Mobile prepaid card with lots of prepaid on it, then almost 18 months into my Cell C contract, finished the Virgin Mobile airtime and decided to port the Virgin Mobile number to the Cell C.

They happily assisted me and it took no time at all. Just walked into a store, they did the port, quickly. So I don't know why MTN does not allow this?

Anyways I'm hard working to get a Dual SIM phone, and then I'll be using both SIMS in it. Since no network sells Dual SIM phones, I'll probably purchase cash. All Xiaomi phones are dual SIM, spesifically looking at the Mi 5.

Have you had success with this? I heard on numerous occasions that this cannot be done?

...I'm pretty sure it is against the CPA rules, anyways, to not be able to.

Yes. I was initially assigned a new number. I then messaged the GM of MTN SA on LinkedIn and he assisted in getting my telkom number across.
