MTN Black Friday Discussions

Have you had success with this? I heard on numerous occasions that this cannot be done?

...I'm pretty sure it is against the CPA rules, anyways, to not be able to.
To make it easier first port your number to Mtn prepaid, then try using the "number for life" facility they have to port the number to the contract. Just keep in mind you can only port a number once every 3 months.

That's correct. Give it a few days, your promo will be loaded.

Any update Nadir?

I got this deal on Cyber Monday and only today did I receive an SMS saying conditionally approved. My first time taking out a contract so I'm a bit sceptical about the billing.

Oh, just like me, you are out of luck... I didn't want to complicate the signup so just opted for another SIM, now a regretting it. MTN is probably the only network that explicitly does not do this! You have to port on activation.

This was such a surprise to me, since I'm a Cell C user for years, and I also had a Virgin Mobile prepaid card with lots of prepaid on it, then almost 18 months into my Cell C contract, finished the Virgin Mobile airtime and decided to port the Virgin Mobile number to the Cell C.

They happily assisted me and it took no time at all. Just walked into a store, they did the port, quickly. So I don't know why MTN does not allow this?

Anyways I'm hard working to get a Dual SIM phone, and then I'll be using both SIMS in it. Since no network sells Dual SIM phones, I'll probably purchase cash. All Xiaomi phones are dual SIM, spesifically looking at the Mi 5.

Huawei P9 range is available through the service providers. I just got mines cheaper through gumtree. Will be using my Sim as well in a dual SIM phone.

Update: after phoning and requesting the correction in the billing, my unbilled balance was changed from 462 to N/A (since I don't have an unbilled balance.)

My current bill is R550 odd. I've only been activated yesterday so this is ridiculous for a R149 deal. Not sure whether this will be corrected..

I have certain items repeated on the invoice.

It will be corrected before they debit it off your account. I'd recommend calling 808 to correct your bill for peace of mind.

Networks all sell dual sim phones apart from vodacom. Mostly Huawei phones.

Ok, finally received the call from RTT, sim delivery scheduled for Wednesday.
Took longer than anticipated, and had to change delivery address from Cape Town to Pretoria as I am here this week for work purposes.
Here's hoping.

Sim delivered but getting someone at activations to pick up proving challenging!!

What number you guys using? 0831239622?

Jip.

Also took forever for them to answer. Luckily it was fast and efficient when they eventually answered.

2.78 days. That .78 should be around 18 hours.

Any luck Nadir?

Still not active. They are blaming the black log of new contracts for the delay in processing my dual sim

I went back to the store today to get some sort of update. I spoke to the manager and he escalated it to the other department which handles the dual sim requests. The manager told me if its not activated within 2 to 24 hours then I must email him on his personal email and he will take it up further.

Been struggling to get activation on my one sim since last week Thursday. Phoned again on Friday they said they need to do manual activation, they said 4-6 hours. Tried to phone over the week end but the call center was closed. Phoned this morning at 8 they said they escalated it and it should take about 2 hours. Still waiting...

Got my SIM today, called the number for activations and told them I want to port my prepaid number to the new contract. 30 minutes later I received an SMS saying that I've been provisioned for the Talk+S package. Still have my prepaid airtime too :)

Waiting for the 50GB data now.
