MTN Black Friday Discussions

Ya true. We knew we wouldn't get as good.

Apparently a full 30 days from the day you receive the SMS

Also all o' ya'll should phone MTN cos each number is entitled to different packages only.

I for instance cannot take the 20+20 package for R149
I however CAN get 300 mins with the 52 gb for R549 .

Not true. Again, get a consultant who is happy to help you. I had the option of any deal that was available. Declined, as I am waiting for a phone offer. At the moment, not happy with anything MTN has offered.

At this rate, I will take the cheapest Made for Me contract (perhaps R199 for 350mins and 3gb data), with a phone. I will take out another Sim-only contract (R149 20gb+10gb) for my wife, and data share that across. I will put on a voice booster on the R149 contract. I only need 1 new phone, but 2 contracts. Doing it these way I think I will be able to get the most out of the minutes and data for as little cost as possible.

I have resigned to the fact that we will not be getting the insane deals that we got 2 years ago again.

she says it doesn't offer it to her on my number on her system. I dono. I had taken it with a phone am paying 529pm currently

Well a slightly different comparison will be Rain. I've done over 200GB this month alone for R250. Suits me perfectly wherever I am, home or work. Nice to watch cricket at work when the boss is not around
I thought RAIN was fixed Lte only, can you put their sims in a mobile device now, only drawback being their as of now limited coverage?
I didn't get the Black Friday deal 2 years ago. What's my best chances of getting one of the deals mentioned here? Contact the call centre or go to a MTN store?
Find someone who has a BF sim they won't renew and take it over, do a transfer of ownership vetting and done.

I'm on a whatsapp group with some mtn people from Cornubia Mall. They (the staff) say the table which is circulatingis for existing customers, and they don't know what the BF deal will be for new customers but they are still trying to get more information on what the deals will be

Rain mobile launched a while back. You can use it in any LTE device. For R250 you also get 19 hours unlimited off-peak data.

confirmed by MTN 0831233667

(10GB+10GB night) + promo (10GB+10GB night) for R149
(30GB+30GB night) + promo (30GB+30GB night) for R299
(50GB+50GB night) + promo (50GB+50GB night) for R469
(2GB + 200MINS) + promo (50GB) for R549
(3GB) + promo (25GB) +notsureifpromoORifbase (3600 MINS) R999

I take it that these are the MTN Choice packages which allows for data share.
You haven't included the Made 4 Me packages which include voice minutes and don't allow data share.
I've calculated that it's better to buy voice bundles for the Choice packages @ R10 for 20 mins all net. Oops, these bundles only last a day.

So after yesterdays promo deal I get a new sms saying that it is for less data, MTN has to get their ducks in an order

Two questions:
1. Can we wait and see what the black Friday deal is before or if we sign up for one of these "special" deals?
2. Can we choose any of the deals or is it fixed to the one they send you?

make a deal with someone on a black friday deal that you'll take over their contract if they don't take up the offer

My understanding is we all will have more than enough time (at least until monday) to go for one of the deals that will be announced friday. I highly doubt it'll be better than what we've been offered but you can wait and see and it WONT cost you anything to wait and see. So wait and see.

It seems a bit hit and miss whether you have an option of any of the packages mentioned above. For eg, one call centre lady said to me that I cannot downgrade to 10+10 package but i can take 30+30 . Take that with a pinch of salt I suppose.

Thank, I do hope we can choose any of the packages, sins myself and Fiance will be taking two contracts and between the two of us, we don't need more than 100 gig of data

i didnt get any messages yet(only the one saying the contract is expiring)... and i did opt in.

I got a call from mtn (not the branch) to offer me the upgrade. I asked her for one of the other offers and she wasn’t sure. She’ll call back after speaking to her team lead.

Regarding offer expiry: I was told by a lady at the call center (she seemed very competent) that these SMS deals expire on Thursday evening. She explained that they want to sort out existing customers first since the call center will be chaotic on Friday. This seems a bit fishy, because if we have 30 days from SMS date for example, then nothing stops us from upgrading after the Black Friday chaos is over.

And regarding other offers, I asked what else I can get (other than the R249 for 20GB+10GB anytime, 20GB+20GB night express I was offered). She confirmed my number and continued to "check what's available for me on the system". Then she said that that's the only promotional deal that I qualify for. So it might be that some users might get to choose other deals, and some might not.

Take it with a grain of salt though, she seemed competent, but that's no guarantee.

Might be right. Might be wrong.

The R249 data only package seems incorrect, the correction SMS I got from MTN stated 20+10 GB anytime (so this is correct), but it stated 20+20 GB for night, where this table only states 20GB.

I got the first of both the voice and data offers, but they were not listed as available on my SMS's.

So you upgraded to offers that weren't available according to the SMSs you got? Did you go to a store or via call center?
