MTN Black Friday Discussions

I would love to get uncapped on Mtn if it was possible. It's the only network that works here well lol

The real question is if this inflated bill thing is legit why didn't we all get these massive bills around the last Black Friday upgrade window in 2018?

From what I recall then once the 24 months was up the contract would migrate to month to month and stay at the same price but all the "promo" data and mins would fall away.
Hence you wouldn't get suddenly smacked with an inflated bill but just get much less data and minutes, which is logical and fair enough.

When your contracts renewed on the 12th, were you allocated the full data or pro-rata until the 23rd? It seems as if we’ve been allocated the full amount so if we are to finish the data by the 22nd and then cancel we would have ended up with free data which wouldn’t make sense.

Yes promo data will fall away however, if you have data package for example mychoice 10 gig as the base package you will be charged what 10 gig normally costs for adhoc data. Mychoice package in it self has a promo price during the contract term, this price also falls away, the assumption that you would be paying the same price as the mychoice 10 gig is incorrect.

Contract terms and conditions even the yellow trader specifies at the end of the contract term the promo price for the base package will fall away, data works differently to physical airtime allocation with the exception of the promo airtime the base package isn't promo, in other words you won't get charged 200 for 100 rands of airtime it remains the same regardless.

Data works differently as the base package already has a promo price applied which is valid for the contract term. You will basically get charged what a 10 gig bundle will cost.If you are going to complain that it is dubious tactics, when you signed the contract either in person or over the phone and like I said the yellow trader warns promo pricing will fall away at the end on the contract term.
As might know you are in the last month of the contract and contracts is charged a month in advance, which is why you still received your allocation, because it is charged a month in advance it is charging without promo fees.

Upgrading/cancelling this will go away

You are most welcome to contact MTN to confirm and they will say exactly what I said.

Yes but this system doesn’t make sense since you can use your December allocation in November and then cancel.

2018 renewal they did not have the 50GB/R150 anymore and I opted for the 10+10promo at R150. For at least 3 months they continued to allocate me 50GB in addition to the 10+10 anytime and I also received the entertainment bundle until they sorted out their ****. It was sweet, I must have screen caps in this thread somewhere.

Being patient with them for now.

Yes and I was expecting this and that's why I phoned a month early but was told I only have to cancel or upgrade on the last day of the contract by retentions.

What makes it much worse is the contract I signed up for in 2018 was 50+50 for R999 but with double the data and a discount taking it to R469 so I could understand yet still not be happy if it went to 50+50 for this month and the price went up to R999.

But it went to R4970, they seemed to have done something though because my upgrade was approved on Tuesday and the current bill in the app seems right.
The outstanding has moved to R1370 or something but the invoice still says R4970 for November.

I just want some clarity now.

That's my issue as well. I also phoned twice to make sure what will happen when my contract ends. Both times I asked twice if they are sure that my bill will remain the same and only the promo deals will fall away and I will be back on the My MTN Choice 50gig or whatever.

Now when I looked on the app there was all these extra packages loaded and that's why it is so high. So who loaded that additional packages? That's my issue. I will also accept that the promo ended now and I have to pay the R999 for the 50gig package as you mentioned.

In fact I won't be to pleased to pay the R1000 even because it was impossible for me to upgrade until they did something to the billing because it was failing the credit check because apperantly my account was R4970 in arrears until Tuesday this week.

I been on the line with MTN this morning. Been a busy morning. Will update the thread once I get an opportunity.

Save to say MTN are aware of the billing anomaly and are working to rectify it.

Normal bill was R469 for black friday deal + R310 for my phone contract. Don't need payslips or anything if you are a current contract holder only ID.

She's head of marketing.

Jacqui o Sullivan

Edit: not marketing, communications....
Sent an Email to Jacqui
Got a reply back from another agent of behalf of Jacqui who will be handling the matter.

I'm not sure why mtn is not coming clean about this matter publicly. Will save everybody including their call centre the headache of dealing with clients.
