MTN Black Friday Discussions

It looks that way. Spoke to someone at retentions, and it is possible. But time is limited. I would have to take the phone to an MTN store, they have it couriered to the warehouse, but then your contract is cancelled completely. So if i had more time then i could have called them to take up the retentions black friday deal again.
Hopefully they extend the black friday period so then i will have more time. But the person on the phone did not know if the cooling off period is from the time that the contract is successful, or from when the device is received, and if the 10 day period is working days or normal days. Frustrating

my question is, what is "normal days" to them? Retentions dont work on weekends as far as i know, so their normal days should be working days right?
 
Guys that took the 500Gb + 500gb package, what amount of data is shareable?

I’ve spoken to 4 different agents previously and all said that 400GB is shareable however this morning one agent said that only 100gb is shareable.

These guys don’t know what they’re doing

I confirmed when agreeing to the contract that it supported datashare and that the 400gb was shareable.

Seems as with the previous time no one really knows at MTN but it will eventually work.

I have the contract terms recorded, 400GB sharable. (This is the only reason I took this package)
I pay via EFT so if the contract is not what was verbally agreed upon will simply just not pay until rectified.
 
Ok.. so apparently i have been signed up this this BF deal now, the lady emailed me at like 12 34 this morning just to let me know..

Kindly note that the package deal entails 400 GB Data anytime, 100 GB Data Any Time and 100 GB Data Night Express.

The Only Data that is Sharable is : 400 GB .

I'm on the 500GB + 500GB @ R500 p/m. According to the app this plan is called: My MTNchoice 400GB.

It seems like only 100Gb is shareable since I have the following bundles (excluding night data):

My MTN Choice Anytime 5G (Expires 31/01/2021) - 226.67GB
Promotional Data - I used up this data already
Data Share recurring Account - 17.81GB
Data Share - Inclusive - 47.91GB

So it used up the Promotional data first but now it's using the data from the "Data Share - Inclusive" bucket.

It looks like in order to use the rest of the base data, the 100Gb shareable data will have to be used up first.

But then the users that I have shared data with will no longer have data.

I received a call from Morris at MTN and he said the only 100gb is shareable however we should wait till the 12th Dec to see what allocation of data we get.
 
I'm fine with sharing only 100GB but the main user should be able to use the unshared data before the shared portion.

the deal code for the R499 x 36 deal from MTN retentions is 2020 991 CT 000 24 BF and it is only for upgrades to existing contracts that have reached term (e.g. the 2016 and 2018 BF contracts)

Today (9 December) is the last day that MTN 2020 Black Friday deals are valid so get dialling and be prepared to hold on for an hour or longer:

135 > option 3 (upgrades & cancellations) > option 2 (Cancel)
dial from an MTN sim (preferably the one you wish to upgrade) and choose the option for Retentions/Cancellations;
begin by saying that you want to Cancel your contract and hear what they have to offer you.

083 123 3667 Upgrade department

011 912 3000 Retentions (not a free number)

083 171 0062 for so-called "Legacy" contracts - whatever that may mean


as for Data Share: 100 GB of the R499 x 36 contract above is shareable according to the "MTN service champion" I spoke to - haven't physically activated the Data Share yet to confirm this.

Set up your Data Share by phoning Customer Care at 135 to give them your Data Share Beneficiary numbers - the blurb says: "share your monthly data bundle with upto 20 MTN numbers".

In the same situation. Think they overloaded. Called yesterday and I am supposed to expect email today
according to the "Service Champion" (WTF ?) I spoke to yesterday, their new software only allows them to do 1 upgrade at a time per customer so if, like me, you tried to upgrade 2 or more SIM's at the same time most probably only 1 upgrade was activated.

My second upgrade was not showing on the <dreadfully unfriendly> myMTN App and when I held on 30 minutes to query with 135, was told the above and that the second upgrade application was started on Friday, but has been hanging on "Awaiting Approval" ever since.

If you do not chase Retentions to manually do the Submit Application step on any upgrades after the first one, then those subsequent upgrades have the chance of never being completed !


<Edit> waiting time is currently 40 min at Retentions 135 > option 3 > option 2
was helped by a very friendly "service champion" who has to email the retentions person who actually initiated the upgrade to remind her to Finalise the Status of the upgrade. <lifts eyes heavenwards>

Only today did I get a new subscriber agreement form with a request to also attach my ID.

Still a work in progress...

It’s been 9 days since Black Friday and I’m still following up every other day. Apparently “deals were closed and only became available again late yesterday”.

My new line applications are apparently now submitted.
