MTN Black Friday Discussions

Strange, I took out my contract on Black Friday 2020 and when I did the upgrade check now it says my contract expires July 2023. It should be expiring this month.
Same here.
Not to concerned cause it was a good deal in 2020 and its still a good deal.

I just spoke to MTN retentions department.

They are running BF deals this year.

I just upgraded to a similar deal that ran 2 years ago.

525 Anytime minutes
17GB of data

R179 pm for 24 months
or
R149 pm for 36 months

There are some other deals available as well:

125 Anytime minutes
12GB of data

R99 for 24 months
or
R79 for 36 months

My line dropped after that, but I managed to upgrade to the 525 minutes, 17GB data
I called Retentions now and asked for the options available to me and he just said the deals will only be available on Friday. Perhaps i should have mentioned that i would like to cancel

Any indication of the above is for existing and non BF holders or existing only?

Strange I didn't. I only got an SMS that reads

"MTN Black Friday is coming soon. From 18 November get exclusive deals as an MTN customer and SAVE. T&C apply. dial *135#"

so I guess I have to wait until the 18th

Same here as well. Only problem I see if we can only upgrade mid next year is that there will be no BF deals midyear?
But what is strange is that we effectively have a 32 month contract if it only expires in July. Surely it can only be either a 24 month or 36 month contract...

Might be one way of getting less BF holders, forcing a traditional contract on us when we have to upgrade after the 32 months then?

Or could this possibly be a 36 month contract with upgrade eligibility after 32 months? I don't remember the details from BF 2020.

My package details: MTN_Made_For_Me_XS-36 Months-ATPR10G-FANMR500-ATPR5GB-ITBL_SIM Only_BF

That makes sense then. Probably, early upgrade few months prior.

I agree. For 24 month contracts I think you can upgrade 2 or 3 months before the end, so I guess for 36 month contracts you can upgrade 4 months before the end of your contract. July 2023 would fit nicely with 4 months before a 36 month contracts taken in Nov ends. (Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov).

With Telkom you can upgrade any time. I upgraded from a 40 + 40 GB for R149 to 80+80Gb for R199 after 12 months of a 24-month contract. It might be the same with MTN, I don't know.

I think after 3 or 6 months with MTN, however it is still at their discretion, it will incur a fee for either a downgrade or upgrade and/or any device fees if applicable.

Is this data strictly for Telkom towers or are they All Net as well?
Would be nice to get this as a back up.

I have the R149 with Telkom on a month to month for my laptop for WFH. Still looking for something decent from MTN for my phone. Currently on the My Choice 20GB BF 2020 deal, which was a 36mt contract, do you think they will allow us to upgrade now, what will the penalty be for the upgrade.
