MTN Black Friday Discussions

Got this too. The lady claims it was since it could be a variable amount this is the max they can debit.

Sound dodgy thought. I accepted it (possibly stupidly).
On the app just disable out of bundle and set the spending limit to 0...

So I signed up with the R150 a month, they have now sent through a debicheck mandate for R20 000 in monthly installments with a max of R20 000 too, has anyone else had this?
Yes. They said it would happen. Tied to your credit limit. My old one was 20k too, but they only took what was owed i.e 209 pm

I just wonder what's the thinking behind offering such great retention deals, but such meh new contract deals. Surely the aim should always be to grow your customer base and thus your income?
Throw a midrange phone in the mix for another R 150/R200 per month and the peeps would be lining up.

I think their strategy is focussed on retaining their existing clients

Yea, so the guy never warned me but in the terms for debichecks you have the below:

"DebiCheck mandate can only be disputed if a different amount was debited against the customers’ account, or the date on which the amount was debited to the customers’ account is different to what was agreed to in the DebiCheck Mandate"

Since one has approved R20k then they can deduct that and bank will tell you to bugger off deal with the SP.

This seems very wrong to me as none of my other debicheck mandates are so grossly disproportonate, car, life insurance etc are all actual debit amount with a max of ~20% more. If the provider wants to ammend it then they can resubmit a higher debicheck amount.

You can always just switch to paying by CC?

Thats a silly idea! Been doing it for years. This month a random value got deducted via my CC. Mtn doesnt know anything about it. My bank are pulling up their shoulders as well! Debicheck only works on cheque/current accounts!

Change your account to cash settlement and then pay it each month via the MTN app, I use my cc each month to do that.

Trying to change mine. It crashes! Lol

The mtn is seriously crap (and buggy)
You have to phone the call centre and ask them to change it.
Of if you are brave you can go into a store and ask them to add your CC details to your account and they'll auto debit it each month. Actually now with VCC that's perfectly safe.

Hello, Please tell me more about this, I tried canceling my 150GB + 150GB (R300pm) contract but they want R3.2k
Not sure what more there is to tell. I phoned, asked for upgrades department and requested an early upgrade.

What has been the best big data only deals so far for legacy BF contracts?

Do you have a device linked to the contract? Sim-only contracts have a one month penalty...
