MTN Black Friday Discussions

I called 135 (Option 4, then Option 2) at 8am and was told that the BF deals only start on Monday.

That said, I asked what was currently on offer and was pleasantly surprised. Certainly presents as a BF deal.

“MyMTN Choice 8GB”

14GB daytime
14GB nighttime
500 minutes any network
Works with DataShare
30 days rollover on data
60 days rollover on minutes
24 month SIM only contract
How much is it?

Just make sure you understand the data breakdown on those deals. Only the core data is shareable.

As mentioned in earlier post, this is what they told me. Think you confirmed better detail on the MyMTN Choice 8GB that I missed.
MyMTN Choice 8gb - 4gb anytime, 4gb night time, PLUS 6gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R106/pm for 24 months. (might have miss typed this one)

MyMTN Choice 20gb - 10gb anytime, 10gb night time, PLUS 10gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R179/pm for 24 months. (again, might have got the name wrong)

MyMTN Choice 60gb - 20gb anytime, 20gb night time, PLUS 20gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R260/pm for 24 months. 2023054 CT 09437 DG

18 months, seems odd. I wonder why they chose 18 months instead of the usual 24.
They trying to get US Black Friday upgrade users to break the patern so we need to take NEW black friday specials next year.

Hi

thanks for posting.

Is this available for new sign-ups ?

@Azimuth @JLo Human thanks guys for the information...however I called retentions and gave them that code but they said the MyMTN Choice packages don't come with any minutes - they only offer data.

I was most interested in
MyMTN Choice 60gb - 20gb anytime, 20gb night time, PLUS 20gb anytime PROMO and 500min all network - R260/pm for 24 months.

Let me know if the code is correct - thanks in advance!

@maverick7987 I’m not familiar with the codes, nor did it come up. I was also offered more data like @JLo Human mentioned but you cannot get more than 500 minutes.

I have the R106pm x 24 deal live now across 3 contracts.

Edit: I’ve since added the Deal ID to my previous post.

They do have a MTN sky silver with 4500mins, that's one of the contracts I took. R550 for 90gb, 4500mins, unlimited MTN to MTN calls, 400 sms's a day

Deal ID: “2023054 CT 09437 DG” is supposed to be the one you are interested in. As mentioned before I am yet to receive the full allocation. From previous experience with these upgrades it can take months before MTN delivers on what they told you over the phone.

I must say that a few days after when I called again to cancel a old month to month data contract the agent did confirm that indeed on the system it does show as above. My understanding is that the 500 all net minutes is a promo add on.

Full allocation received on 3 numbers within minutes. Previous contract leftovers didn’t disappear so it looks a bit OTT right now.

With Black Friday 2 years ago, it took 5 months (and lots of fighting) to get activated. Glad to have a different experience this time around.

I see the retentions direct number mentioned previously in this thread has been closed/deactivated. Is there another way of contacting them directly?

Just to warn everyone who has a BF contract ending…. My bill for 3 2020 BF (+- 170*2 plus +- 350 = 690pm) just jumped to showing an outsanding amount of R2,732
I phoned the call centre, to be told it is just a mistake.
I then visited my local MTN franchise branch, and the manager logged into the accounts and chnaged them to month-to-month.

So, voice one’s came down from 147.23 (excl) to 114.34 (excl) BUT the 50gb (50 day 50 nights) one has shot up (without any promo (was 100gb day/100gb night) from (sm says was 299.00 to a whopping 1,818.00 per month

If this is the way MTN wants to retain customers, it is going to chase the customers away.

I am going to take a while to calm myself down, at which time I am going to rethink my relationship with MTN.

I remember having to email “JacqueO’Sullivan 36 months ago to to have a similar debacle sorted… the (at the time) great BF deals kept me there (and problem invoices reversed) but this year’s (the ones published) leave much to be desired.

As an aside, I actually did upgrade one via the casl centre last week. It was the 106.00 pm one BUT instead of saying 4gb day / 4GBVR night plus 10gb day promo / 10 gb night promo (and shareable only the base data (4gb) I was assured, when I specifically asked if all 28gb is shareabl, that YES all data is shareable. My visit to the branch (fortunately) burst my bubble. I had 15,5 gb so going to 28 did make sense at the time.
I will give an update once I have feedback.

I may be corrected but the mtn sales / retentions are run by Ignition call centre
Correct, The Ignition Group and they are as useless and deceitful as they come, step very carefully around retentions upgrades and while you are on the call confirm the details of everything verbally with the consultant, repeat it back to them, so if they stuff it up they can pull the call and you have proof of whatever was claimed.
