Can somebody please explain to me how charging a monthly rate for an item constitues a freebie? This simply does not compute whatsoever nor does the advertising seem very legal. If I advertised an iPad as free, then tried to charge you for it, I'd be taken to task...

I think the "(At R125pm)" bit after the listed freebie is to indicate how much it WOULD have cost if you were to pay for it yourself.

They're showing you what they're going to give you and then indicating the value of the free item.

My take on it at least.

Yep, he is right.
So for MTN 100, u pay R309 and not R309 + R90.
Bear in mind though that, technically, they are accounting for the data in the price. Cos R309 on MTN 100 for Iphone is ridiculous (add the data and it is acceptable).

That would make a little more sense, but then why the ambiguity in the first place? It's not like the word "worth" was a tough one to come up with instead. So either their marketing department is made up of illiterate morons, or they're really charging for something claimed to be a freebie...
